About me and my therapy practice
I'm an integrative counsellor which means that I don't believe that there is a one size fits all approach when it comes to therapy. So whether you prefer structured CBT or to express yourself creatively or anything in between, I will tailor therapy according to your needs. I work within a feminist framework, listening, validating and working to empower my clients in a safe space, free of judgement. I believe that my client is the expert on their own experience and I will let you lead the way, allowing you to create the agenda for our sessions. Meanwhile gently working alongside you to develop your inner resources in response to the challenges of the world in which we live.
Practice description
I specialize in working with women, children and young people, and I hold a sympathetic understanding of the issues that impact and effect both these groups. I have particular experience of working with survivor's of sexual and domestic violence, having worked in the Women's sector and for Women's Aid for several years. I also have many years of experience working with children and young people in charities and educational settings as both a therapist, youth worker and mentor.
I take a social justice approach to therapy, recognizing that we are all products of the experiences that life throws of us, and the environments that we grew up in. In other words I believe that life and living can tough, and that can leave us with scars and unhealthy coping mechanisms which impact how we may feel and behave in the present. As a therapist it is my goal to provide my clients with a space away from the harshness of the outside world, where they can have their voice heard, respected and understood on the hopeful path to healing.
