About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Mal Jones.  As a result of COVID 19, I am currently offering sessions by telephone or zoom. I am a qualified Person-Centred therapist with 6 years experience of working with Sexual Violence and Domestic Abuse within a charity setting, working with men and, women aged 16-70. I see myself, and have been told by clients, that I am both warm and “unflappable”. I am a non judgmental and empathic person, who creates a therapeutic environment where you can feel safe, listened to, held and confident in expressing vulnerability. In particular, I aim for my sense of humour to come across, and notice how shared laughter can be a powerful enabler of any relationship.

Practice description

I am Person Centred and Integrative.  This means that I believe building a therapeutic relationship based on empathy, valuing and regarding you positively without condition, and being a genuine human being is at the core of what I offer as a therapist and as a person.

As well as my practice having foundations based on who I am, my practice is also evidence based, backed up by the most up to date neuroscience and psychology research.

I have experience of helping people with a wide range of issues; from anxiety and depression and work related stress, to complex trauma, childhood abuse and personality disorders.

BACP accredited PGDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy (university of Aberdeen).

Trained Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (NCFE Cert)

Certificate in online and telephone counselling

Various workshops from world leading experts on working with Trauma.

My first session

Your first session with me would be an opportunity to get a taste of how we might work together and to see if we "click". We're all unique, and as such it's important that you work with someone who you feel comfortable working with.   The first session will last for up to 1.5 hours (although I only charge for the hour).  The first hour is a session, and if you feel you'd like to work with me, the remaining half an hour can be spent working out what this might look like and filling in some paper work.
