About me and my therapy practice
One-to-one counselling for adults on an open-ended or time-limited basis.
I originally trained in psychodynamic counselling, the model upon which I continue to base my practice.
The psychodynamic approach focuses on the ‘unconscious’, and enabling unconscious thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour to become conscious. In the past, certain thoughts and feelings might have been difficult to process, so we ‘tuck them away’ without being aware of it. Psychodynamic counselling can help reveal and acknowledge these deep-rooted feelings and memories, understand where they might have originated, and recognise the defences we might use to protect ourselves.
I also find it useful to draw from other models including Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Person-Centred Therapy, in order to enable a solution which best addresses your specific issues.
The number of sessions needed will vary from individual to individual ; I can work within the framework of a pre-agreed number of sessions, or on a more open-ended basis.
Essentially, you are the master of your own counselling: it is your choice to come in the first place, and to then decide how much change has to be effected in order for the work to feel complete.
