About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes life can be overwhelming and it can be hard to know how to make the changes we need to feel better. You may be struggling to manage; feeling isolated, anxious, or hopeless. Perhaps you just feel you need someone to talk to...
Taking the first step towards asking for help can often feel daunting, but it means you want to make changes and improve your life. Counselling can be an invaluable way to begin your journey to improving your quality of life and help you learn to cope with current and future problems. Talking about whatever is troubling you in an accepting and safe space will help you to make sense of your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
My name is Siobhan, and I am a fully qualified person-centred psychotherapist based in Oswestry, Shropshire.
I offer one-to-one counselling sessions from my therapy room which is situated in Oswestry town centre, although counselling sessions can take place via zoom video call or by telephone if this is preferable to you.
In addition to individual therapy, I provide emotional wellbeing workshops and short courses for schools, colleges, and community support services.
I believe that you deserve to be listened to, respected, and accepted for the unique individual that you are. I have faith in your strength and personal resources to overcome your difficulties. Over time, and with the right support, you can discover your own abilities, confidence, and sense of independence, so that you can cope with current and future problems.
I believe that you are the expert on yourself and I will always treat you this way - after all, no-one else knows exactly what it’s like to be you! I will not judge you, no matter what you bring to our sessions. This can help us to build a trustworthy relationship in which you can feel free and supported to disclose whatever is troubling you.
Although I am primarily a person-centred counsellor, I may adapt the way we work together to best meet your needs when I feel it would benefit you. This may include taking more of a solution-focused approach, suggesting mindfulness techniques, or introducing some creative work to help you express how you are feeling when it may be hard to put things into words.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute consultation where we can discuss any specific issues you want to address and what you would like to gain from therapy. This also gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. However, you are under no obligation to continue with therapy at this point - it needs to feel right for you.
If at this point you decide you would like us to work together, we will agree a regular weekly appointment slot. During our first session, we will work through an initial assessment and counselling agreement which will help us to plan our work together effectively. From then on, we will use the time to talk about whatever you would like to bring to the sessions. You will not be committed to a fixed number of sessions; how long we work together is up to you, and you can bring the therapy to an end at any point. From time to time we will review how things are going and discuss any changes we need to make to ensure you get the most from counselling.
