About me and my therapy practice

My name is Lucy Sumner and I am a fully qualified MBACP integrative counsellor. I work with adults and my practice based in Lancashire, however because I practice online and by telephone, I can help people across the UK.

I work with a wide range of issues from stress, depression and bereavement to OCD and self harm. I have a special interest and much experience in anxiety, miscarriage, grief and loss, and am able to help clients from all walks of life who for whatever reason they are finding it difficult right now.

In 2017 I began providing counselling with a charity in Preston, which helped me understand the wide variety of issues people go through.  In early 2020 I set up my own private practice and went straight to online and telephone, because who knew what was going to happen with covid. Things are tough right now for everyone. Don’t feel you’ve got to say you’re ok when you’re not, we have all been there, and you are not alone.

Practice description

Is your response to “how are you?” “fine” or “ok” when it’s really not? Do you go out of your way to help others and put yourself last? People come to counselling for a variety of different reasons – I’ve had clients come to sessions because they have avoided talking about experiences or feelings, and avoidance is no longer working for them, clients who haven’t spoken to friends or family about their problems as they feel friends and family already have enough to worry about. Clients who don’t want to upset anyone or they fear they might be judged. I won’t judge, criticize you, or tell you what to do, that’s not what counselling is about. I will listen to you and guide you. I want to ensure I understand your feelings and experiences, you know them best! I love what I do and feel privileged that clients trust me with their feelings and emotions that they may never have spoken to someone else about.

My first session

I understand it is daunting to take that first step and contact a counsellor as I’ve been there myself, but to have that time once a week to say whatever I wanted to say, was really beneficial. It helped me to work through my own life experiences, I am human just like everyone else and I still have difficult times.

Finding the right counsellor is a personal choice and you need to find one that you feel you can gel with. These are your sessions, so you need to decide if I am the right person for you and if we can work together. Please feel free to contact me and we can arrange a free call first, you are under no obligation.

If you feel comfortable to proceed with counselling, the sessions will all be 50 minutes.
