About me and my therapy practice

I’m Alex Francis, a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based in Lewes, East Sussex, offering sessions both in person and using Zoom.  I am someone who believes counselling is for anyone who believes, or hopes, that there is more to life than what they are experiencing right now.

What I offer

At the heart of what I offer is a safe, non-judgmental space for you to talk about whatever has brought you to counselling.

I draw from a range of what are known as Humanistic approaches. These include Person Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. Whether you’re most comfortable thinking through problems, or checking in with your feelings and emotions, or prefer to focus on actions and behaviour, we would find a way to work together that’s the right fit for you.

Like many people I see, you may want or need different things at different times. Another reason being adaptable with my approach is so important.

Who do I work with?

I have worked with adult men and women, from the early stages of working out the path they want to follow in life, through to deep into retirement. I have experience working with anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues, loss or bereavement, loneliness, men’s issues, drug or alcohol problems, the impact of trauma, neglect and many of life’s other challenges. I have worked with people from many different backgrounds and cultures and have a particular interest in issues that can come from moving between cultures.

Next Steps

You can call or email me to arrange a low-cost introductory session, to see how we might get along, or you can learn more about how I work by visiting my website: www.alexfranciscounselling.co.uk

Practice description

Counselling is often seen as being for people in a state of crisis. And yes, I do work with clients who may have experienced recent losses, of jobs, or relationships, or bereavements and are struggling to cope. Or are experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, or have concerns about their own or a loved one’s alcohol or drug misuse. I also work with people dealing with past neglect and/or trauma, physical, emotional or sexual, that continues to have a negative impact on their lives.

But I also work with those who might not be in a state of crisis, but have perhaps noticed they keep following patterns of behaviour that lead to the same negative outcomes. They want to know why, and/or how to do things differently. Or perhaps have everything in life they thought they wanted, but still don’t feel happy. Whatever goals you might have, I believe counselling can help you achieve them.

My first session

I offer a low cost introductory session that offers an opportunity to talk about what is bringing you to seek counselling, and to answer any questions you might have about my approach. It's a chance to get to know each other a bit better, to help decide if working together is the right choice for you.
