I work mainly online: Emails, SMS, phone and video call, but am happy to work face to face. The initial 20-minute consultation, either online or by telephone is free. This is an opportunity for me to explore what your expectations of counselling are. It also gives you the chance to ask any questions you may have and perhaps more importantly, sense if I'm the right therapist for you.
About me and my therapy practice
When things reach a point where you feel you don't want to deal with it all by yourself, it can help to talk to someone who is independent from every other area of your life. As a trained professional my job is to listen, bring other perspectives, help you gain valuable insight into your situation and improve your life.
I feel that all people, are unique and therefore use my training, experience and intuition, to work in a creative and flexible way that reflects this. Whether this is your first time seeing a counsellor or you have had counselling before, I will meet you where you are at and work collaboratively with you. This means that I see counselling as something that we do together, exploring with curiosity what may be going on for you. I will be open, honest and respectful of you.
My person-centred approach to working will ensure that you have the opportunity to bring whatever you wish to our sessions and that you will be heard in a way that you may not have experienced before. I believe that a healthy therapeutic relationship is crucial for our personal growth to take place and I will work diligently and sensitively with you to help bring this about.
I pride my practice on being as open and as honest with you as is possible, in the hope that you can do the same. If there is an intervention or item of knowledge or action that I feel is appropriate and useful to share with you, which would help bring about your personal growth, maintain your safety or enhance your welfare, I will do so.

My first session
During the first session, we can discuss the reasons that brought you to therapy. I will explain about confidentiality, including your rights as a client and how I work as a therapist. We will jointly establish a working agreement, setting out preferred methods of communication and your expectations of therapy. You will have the freedom to discuss any concerns you may have. There are no right or wrong answers in therapy, it is about you and your experience of an event/situation.
