About me and my therapy practice
Do you feel anxious, worried or depressed? Do you struggle with low self-esteem? Are unhelpful thoughts causing you to remain in a cycle of unwanted behaviour and negatively affecting your life? I will work closely alongside you and am committed to supporting and enabling you to look at these issues in a confidential environment. Your thoughts and feelings will be valued and respected. I offer a supportive, empathetic and confidential relationship where we will explore your situation together and discuss changes that you would like to make.
I work with young people and adults and love and enjoy my work. Clients have described me as accepting, warm, encouraging and empathetic. Alongside my private work I have also counselled in a large senior school, a GP surgery and 3 charities supporting young people. I believe that young people face enormous pressures in this fast-paced modern world and do not always find the tools to manage it, and themselves. Being given the chance to be supported by someone who is not connected to home, school, university can be both beneficial and empowering and can remove a lot of pressure. Our work can be reflective, empowering and fun, working creatively can help and I offer all sorts of ways of doing this.
I am very happy to offer walking sessions and welcome taking our work into the great outdoors. Confined spaces can be difficult for some and living in the beautiful Devon countryside offers a huge space for expression, nature, mindfulness and calm reflection. If this is something that might appeal to you when thinking about counselling please mention it to me!
As part of my professional and ethical responsibility, I am committed to ongoing training, regular supervision (a requirement for BACP members), and practicing good self-care; walking, yoga, singing loudly and time with friends and family.
My private practice is based in central Totnes.
There are several large car-parks nearby, the main-line station is within a 10 minute walk and there are many buses.
My first session
First sessions in any situation can be tricky, I am aware of that. I hope our first session will show you that counselling can be something not to be worried about. We will spend this time discussing how I work, what I can offer you in the way of support and I will ask you to give me an brief outline of what you would like to work on in future sessions.
