About me and my therapy practice

I am, at heart, always person centred in my approach, and have worked in this way for many years. It is this commitment to working in a person centred way which underpins all the work I do with clients, of whatever modality or type. In that time, I have worked as a Head of Psychological Services at a large Occupational Health Service for 10 years, supervising over 80 permanently employed therapists. Previously I worked within 3 different Police Services as a therapist and welfare officer; and had many years experience prior to that as a community mental health worker. As a result I have developed effective ways of dealing with trauma, particularly with survivors of traumatic events (including armed service personnel, ambulance crews/paramedics, and police officers) and adult survivors of childhood abuse. I have many years experience of working with mental health issues including depression and anxiety. I am also qualified as a Relationship Counsellor having worked in 'Relate' for many years.

My first session

My first session focusses on meeting, setting out the limits of confidentiality and establishing the reasons behind you seeking therapy. You will be given a written 'Contract' which sets out the parameters or limits of the contact between therapist and client, which you will sign and keep a copy. The session is intended to last 50 minutes and all ensuing sessions will also be for that duration.
