About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name Margaret, I am a qualified, experienced counsellor of adults. I have experience working with a wide variety of people who have varied reasons for seeking help. Prior to qualifying as a Therapeutic Counsellor I worked in the helping professions in the areas of mental health and learning disability for fifteen years. Since qualifying, four years ago, my main focus and experience has been in trauma recovery along with a range of varied issues. I have a passion for helping people grow to where they want to be.

What I offer. I offer an invitation to talk through your emotions, relationships, patterns of behaviour, beliefs and their origins. By reflecting on them, with you, you may discover new ways of experiencing that can contribute to the life you wish for yourself. My aim is to facilitate the process by listening deeply to try to truly understand and feed back to you so that you can see the sometimes conflicting parts within from a different perspective, and get to know the effect they have on your life. By talking through and understanding yourself and your patterns and by challenging negative self-perception you can begin to build a more positive relationship with yourself.

How I work. I work from the perspective that you are the only one who truly knows you. I am guided by you and your preferences for the way we work together, whether you feel more suited to having space to explore yourself, guided exploration of your past and inner self or more interactive strategies to work with. Together, we can work towards the person you want to be through understanding, increasing self-awareness, building self-esteem, finding more helpful patterns and developing your relationship with yourself.

Practice description

I am currently offering online, face to face counselling only. I have completed an Advanced Certificate in Online Counselling and am a Level 2 Professional Member of ACTO (Association for Counselling and Therapy Online).

Our sessions will have a pluralistic focus which means we will work in collaboration with each other, where your input into what works for you balanced with my training and experience of what may be helpful and safe will determine the pace, input and nature of the therapy.

My first session

It is important for us both to feel that we are able to, potentially, build a good enough relationship for therapy to be effective. This first session is a chance to gauge that.

It will give you the opportunity to get a feel for how I work, and for me to hear something about your personal history and aims and expectations for therapy, giving me an idea of whether I am able to help or whether online working is suitable for your particular situation.

In this session we will go over the working contract which will give you an idea of the boundaries and framework for the therapy.

Should you decide you would like to continue we will be able to book mutually suitable appointments of one hour, we will both then agree and sign the contract.

Your first appointment will be a no obligation, free, assessment session.
