About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Margaret, I am a qualified, experienced counsellor of adults, children and young people.
NB Due to Covid restrictions I am only offering online and telephone counselling to 18 years and over
I have experience working with a wide variety of people who have many and varied reasons for seeking help. I have worked in a helping profession for the past fifteen years and have a passion for helping people grow to where they want to be.
What I offer
I offer an invitation to talk through your emotions, relationships, patterns of behaviour and beliefs and by reflecting on them and their origins discover new ways of experiencing that can contribute positively to the life you wish for yourself. My aim is to facilitate the process by listening to what you are saying to try to truly understand and feed back to you so that you can see the sometimes conflicting parts within from a different perspective, and get to know their effect on your life By talking through and understanding yourself and your patterns and by challenging negative self-perception you can begin to build self-esteem, self-awareness and a more positive relationship with yourself.
How I work
I work from the perspective that you are the only one who truly knows you. Together, we can work towards the person you want to be through increasing self-awareness, building self-esteem, finding more helpful patterns and developing your relationship with yourself.
Practice description
I am currently offering remote counselling only, through video conferencing, over the telephone and by email. I have completed a certificate in online counselling and telephone training.
Given the nature of child counselling I am not able to offer this online.
Our sessions will have a pluralistic focus which means we will work in collaboration with each other, where your input into what works for you balanced with my training and experience of what may be helpful and safe will determine the pace, input and nature of the therapy.
My first session
It is important for us both to feel that we are able to, potentially, build a good enough relationship for therapy to be effective. This first session is a chance to gauge that.
It will give you the opportunity to get a feel for how I work, and for me to hear something about your personal history and aims and expectations for therapy, giving me an idea of whether I am able to help or whether online working is suitable for your particular situation.
In this session we will go over the working contract which will give you an idea of the boundaries and framework for the therapy.
Should you decide you would like to continue we will be able to book mutually suitable appointments of one hour, we will both then agree and sign the contract.
Your first appointment will be a no obligation, free, assessment session.
