About me and my therapy practice

Welcome

I am an Integrative Psychotherapist trained to a high level, with an in-depth knowledge of the key theories and schools of thought within the field of counselling. I work in accordance to the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) ethical framework and have supervision monthly to help monitor and improve my practice. I have had success working with anxiety, depression and trauma. I promote counselling at public events and have been on the journey myself too.

My own therapy of 8 years was the most powerful experience in becoming a counsellor. I’ve witnessed first hand the way counselling changes lives and feel privileged being able to walk through the journey with others.

If you have experienced abuse during childhood it can have a lifelong impact. Being subject to unpleasant memories and feelings from the past popping up can be uncomfortable and unnerving. Sometimes memories come up without warning and catch you off guard. This can cause confusion, anxiety and difficulty talking to others.

Without processing the past, the present is affected. This could be at work, with family or internally, you might find that you're feeling stuck, low or lost.

Are you finding it harder to do things that used to be easier? Are you finding it difficult to explain how you’re feeling to others because they don't know what you went through? Do you fear being judged, questioned and like a burden if you do tell people about your feelings?

I hear you and can help.

You don’t need to prove, measure or compare how you feel. No one really knows what it’s like for you, except for you.

I can offer you unconditional support. You will be heard without judgement. This alone is an experience that some people have never had. It makes a huge difference and everyone deserves to be heard and understood.

About me and my therapy practice

Some ways that therapy helps

  • Talking about feelings like low self-esteem or trying to fit into the world are universal experiences which are worth discussing. Having counselling can feel like a spring clean of your mind; clearing out what isn't needed and feeling fresher, brighter and stronger.
  • Counselling helps surf life’s waves by consolidating that you are the constant in your life. The ups and downs will always occur but the impact on you can be re-framed.
  • With increased self-awareness comes more peace. By managing our behaviours and boundaries better, there’s less conflict and rumination. Understanding ourselves gives us the chance to enjoy more, fret less and use ourselves as a reference point more.
  • Self-care. It’s trendy to talk about but do you really do it? Working out what’s right for you and what nourishes your soul is key. You determine what your self-care looks like.
  • Often, people can feel that their problems aren’t enough to see a therapist about. If you are struggling, you can get help. Don’t measure or compare. No one really knows what it’s like for you except for you.
  • Learning to trust yourself is at the heart of counselling: determine what’s right for you and release external pulls which no longer serve you. Hearing and trusting intuition from your soul once the frequency is set to drown out old beliefs, is magical and liberating. How often do you trust you?
  • Placing our self-worth in the hands of others diminishes our power, freedom and soul. Relating worth to achievement, success, wealth, followers or other is, again, making your worth conditional.

Practice description

Inner critic?

Are you a frequent flyer of the ‘I’m a bad person, I get things wrong all the time and everyone must thinks I’m weird’ club? 🤔 🙋🏻‍♀️ 🤦‍♂️ ⬅️

If so, you’re completely normal and are in fact, probably experiencing shame and guilt, both are universal - many, many people feel like this too. 👭👫👬👭👫👬

It is extremely hurtful to our core being and a pretty demoralising way to live. Damaging our self-worth, keeping us from fitting in and stifling our ability to ask for help when we need it.

You could try...

  • Imagine it’s a song you hate coming on the radio. Again! Switch it off, you’ve heard it all before.  📻 ☠️ 🙄

  • When you catch it, pull a face at it, call it out, say; no thanks, I don’t want that that anymore. Keep catching it and keep switching it off because it isn’t helpful or necessary. 🤪🤡⛔❌

  • Remember, it’s not all about You! Feeling bad about yourself, doubting your ability and finding faults in what you do is not reserved for the posh/poor/oldest/youngest/you get the gist. It’s normal and it’s rubbish.
Sometimes, it’s worse, eg when we are worried/stressed/busy/etc.

Bin the critic and find new ways to talk to yourself. Be kind, compassionate and own your imperfections! Talking down to yourself isn’t exactly motivating or fair.

My first session

I remember when I started seeing a counsellor. I benefited from being able to explore feelings, thoughts and memories in a safe space. This deep dive ended up being the hardest but very best journey.

Having had over 8 years of therapy myself and having experienced different models and therapists, I've honed what I find to be the best way of working. I aim to work in a way that puts you at ease with talking. I'll help you explain and explore your issues. I'll try to understand you, from your perspective. I'm very compassionate and warm. Rapport is essential to me.

Everyone has it in them to survive; it's innate. It's the hardest thing you will ever do and it may take a long time but will never regret your recovery.
