About me and my therapy practice
I'm a specialist NHS couples' counsellor, with extensive experience of couples' counselling within the NHS and privately.
I have been employed as a counsellor for 16 years. I have previous training in general nursing.
Couples : My work with couples is practical and solution focused. After a comprehensive assessment to identify the difficulties, we'll work together to promote acceptance, revise perceptions, manage feelings, improve communication, change behaviours and cope with stress.
Couples' counselling can work towards strengthening relationships, healing breakdown, assisting with an amicable separation / divorce, and with co-parenting.
I am a member of the British Emotionally Focused Therapy Centre (BEFT Centre)
Availability and charges:
Weekend and evening sessions are available. Costs from £60 per session. Please enquire for your specific price.
I offer video sessions via Zoom
I provide free couples' counselling to those in the armed forces who have returned from active service.
Sessions take place in a quiet private location with free parking and easy transport links via bus and mainline train. I am available to do home visits if necessary.
I have an open and friendly nature and enjoy the ability to get along with a wide range of people. I am intelligent, aim to be honest and reliable, and am committed to high professional standards. Please arrange for a short meeting or telephone call to get to know me a little before committing to counselling sessions.
My counselling model is called Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
EFT is a collaborative, structured approach of working with couples that fosters the creation of secure relationship bonds. It is an affirming, caring, supportive way to get out of the “stuck places” we all get into.
My first session
The first few sessions:
The first session is with both of you, getting to know each other, how we will work, and starting to explore what is happening in your relationship.
Second and third sessions are individual sessions, one with each of you, looking at relationships throughout your life, including your current one.
The fourth session is together again. We will begin to explore your relationship more deeply.
On rare occasions we won’t continue working together after the fourth session. This may be for ethical reasons or because couples therapy might not be the right kind of support for you at this time.
Usually after the fourth session I will continue to meet with both of you together for the duration of the therapy.
