About me and my therapy practice

I'm a specialist couples' counsellor, with extensive experience of couples' counselling privately and within the NHS.

I have been employed full time as a counsellor for over 18 years.  I have previous training in general nursing.

Couples : There are many different kinds of couples' counselling with varying degrees of success; but one stands out.

I work with couples using a wonderful model called Emotionally Focused Therapy.  The effectiveness of this model has proven, via 30 years of research, that it is the gold standard for couples' therapy.

I am a member of the British Emotionally Focused Therapy Centre and the International Centre of Excellence for Emotionally Focused Therapy.

For more about my work, please read the reviews on my website.

Availability and charges:

Evening sessions are available.  Each 50 minute session costs £60.

All sessions are via Zoom.

I provide free couples' counselling to those in the armed forces who have returned from active service.

Practice description

My counselling model is called Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

EFT is a collaborative, structured approach of working with couples that fosters the creation of secure relationship bonds. It is an affirming, caring, supportive way to get out of the “stuck places” we all get into.

My first session

The first few sessions:

The first session is with both of you, getting to know each other, how we will work, and starting to explore what is happening in your relationship, particularly focusing on your repeating "dance".

Second and third sessions are for you individually. We'll be looking at your relationships and attachment history throughout your life.

The fourth session is with you both together again.

On rare occasions we won’t continue working together after the fourth session. Normally this is because couples' therapy isn't the right kind of support for you at this time.

Generally after the fourth session I will continue to meet with both of you together for the duration of the therapy.
