About me and my therapy practice

My approach to working with you  to ease, understand and disperse painful issues and emotional distress, is integrative. Our start point is the building of a safe, confidential, attuned relationship between you and me.

Always attending to what is occurring in the here and now, I will initially invite you to talk about your needs, history and current feeling.

As we progress I will encourage mindful body awareness and careful, attentive focus on held in, suppressed feelings. I am always sensitive to the need to slow down or draw back from any exploration.

In expanding the growth and nourishment of self exploration I offer a creative, body centred approach, with the possibility of movement, embodied metaphor, expressive vocal sounding, story, writing , drawing --- and of course, talking.

All can open a path through stuckness, dilemma and desperation; discover strength in vulnerability; create compassionate connection with soul.

Practice description

I have practiced as a psychotherapeutic, integrative counsellor for twelve years and as a Voice Movement Therapist for twenty years.I trained in Voice Movement Therapy and in Integrative psychotherapy.

Creative arts work, non-touch body therapy, mindfulness and, particularly, voice and movement , inform my work. As I listen to you I will attune both  to what you say, reflecting back  and listening for the underlying  needs that may be hidden or hard to acknowledge.  A creative approach can often bring release and a deep understanding .

My work also has a psychodynamic bent; a major element of my training, now enhanced by study of and working with emotional trauma. 

My first session

In the first session we will meet to see if I am the right therapist for you. I will ask you a number of questions , as well as inviting you to me question me.

It will be helpful if you can clarify your needs and goals for therapy.

We will begin to structure a time line for your life. This will be informed by the significant events and relationships you feel able to speak of on our first meeting.

We will discuss the practicalities of our working contract , which I will then write for your agreement at our next session.

Our initial session will last one & a half hours , at the same cost as for all hourly sessions.
