About me and my therapy practice

It is okay to not feel okay.  Therapist is not indulgent because it's only through self-exploration that we gets closer to WHO we really are.

As an integrative therapist, I draw on a range of tools to help us work on your concerns.

The first way I work is PSYCHODYNAMICALLY, which is merely a way for us to explore those issues that come from the past, which affect the way we are today – we all carry some of our past with us and counselling can really help us to heal from a range of emotions including those related to loss, grief and trauma. Healing is a process, so sometimes it is necessary to 'go back' in order to go forward.

I also work HUMANISTICALLY, which allows us to reflect on what is bothering us in the here and now. Knowing that it is okay not to feel okay can be reassuring. Long-term, however, where do we go from here? Issues such as anxiety and depression can make us feel like we are not moving forward so let's hit pause and reflect. We will discover the answers together!

Another way I work is COGNITIVELY.  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has proven to be very effective in helping individuals to reframe negative thoughts. The way we respond to issues are largely learnt from our pasts and it is possible to relearn new, more desirable ways of being.

Issues such as complex relationships, addiction, phobias and PTSD can be explored using CBT.

Therapy is not all about listening and asking how people feel. It is also about identifying themes and using education to raise our self- awareness.  I like to share theoretical principles and resources so that clients can manage their mental health effectively. This is all about PSYCHOEDUCATION.

During our time together, it is my job to pick up on what is missing, to challenge you and to help you get to where you wish to be.  Send me a message if you have any questions.

Practice description

As part of my practice, I believe in continuous professional development (CPD). This helps me to support others in their own personal development across a wide range of contexts.

At the current time, counselling is being delivered in three different ways:

  • Online via ZOOM or Google Meet.
  • Walk & Talk Therapy during which we explore issues in an outdoor space - some clients find it useful to talk when we are in / around nature. This option is available if you live in postcodes TW1 and TW9.
  • Text-based therapy for those who find it difficult to talk - this is a particularly useful service for: a) those suffering from abuse and/or domestic violence who may not be able to talk freely; b) those who have a medical condition that prevents them from speaking; or c) those who struggle with a range of hearing conditions.

My first session

You can message me on this website, or via my own website, and I will arrange for a brief courtesy call to go through the issues currently impacting your life. During this brief call, I form an idea of how I can support you.

Once we have established a way of working together, sessions will take place weekly initially, with each session usually lasting 50 minutes.  On occasion, however, you may wish to book a double session to explore specific issues in more depth.

About me and my therapy practice

In order to optimise our working alliance with clients, it really is beneficial to undertake Supervision on a regular basis.

Supervisors are there to support therapists with an ever-increasing diversity of clients. It doesn't mean a therapist isn't 'good enough', but it does mean that you can feel supported in the same way that clients feel supported - it really is a win-win.

In my supervision work, integrative in nature, I draw on the Seven Eyed model of Supervision developed by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet.

The model helps us to understand the dynamics at play so we can provide the best therapeutic experience. The model:

  1. Focuses on clients and explores what and how they present
  2. Explores strategies and interventions used by the therapist with client
  3. Focuses on the relationship between the client and the supervisee (that's YOU!)
  4. Focuses on what's happening for the supervisee in the therapeutic relationship
  5. Focuses on the supervisory relationship (that is between YOU and ME!)
  6. Reflection of the supervisor on their own experience
  7. And explored the wider context of the work, taking into account the client's world.

Practice description

Important Note: I am currently a Supervisor-in-training. I will receive my qualification in Clinical Supervision in Spring 2024.

My current price of £50/hour reflects this status.

For those requiring 90 minutes of supervision per month, the cost is £80 per 1.5 hour session.

Please enquire if you're interested in working together for your Supervision needs.

My first session

You can message me on this website, or via my own website, and I will arrange for a brief courtesy call to explore your Supervision needs. During this call, I form an idea of how we can work together.

Once we have established a way of working together, sessions will usually take the form of whatever your Membership Body. For those abiding by the BACP Ethical Framework, this is 90 minutes of Supervision per month.

It is worth checking with any other Membership Body you are a member of what their Supervisory requirements are in order to remain compliant.
