About me and my therapy practice

Hello! I am Nisa, a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor with over 9 years’ experience. I am both BACP registered and accredited.

Before training as a counsellor, I worked at a Bank in a professional capacity, living a fast-paced life, but I always had a passion for listening to people; and guiding them to live more meaningful lives and better manage stress and anxiety.

Eventually, my passion led me into the counselling profession, where I volunteered for Cruse Bereavement Care as a Bereavement Counsellor. I have found a more fulfilling working life that benefits people more directly and aligns with my values more closely.

In my practice, I have helped a wide variety of people, all of whom approached me with different challenges and in unique circumstances. I can only say that I have a deep respect and admiration for the courage every person has demonstrated. The dignity, resilience and willingness to explore challenging issues is a quality I see in every client, I have been privileged enough to work with.

Reaching out for counselling and psychotherapy isn’t easy to do, especially if you haven’t gone to therapy before. Taking that first step is, perhaps the hardest step of all, and if this is your first experience, then I want to acknowledge the courage you have already shown.

With counselling sessions, therapy can feel challenging and daunting. It takes courage to realise that you may need help, and you no longer want to suffer and struggle to cope on our own. At first, speaking to a therapist may feel very strange, and you may feel uncertain about what to say or what it is that the therapist can do for you.

Counselling can make the difference between continuing to struggle to ‘suffer in silence’ or developing inner strength and the self-belief needed to bring about real change.

Practice description

How I work...

Psychodynamic therapy explores the significance of earlier life experiences in shaping our psychological development and our relationships as adults. We will explore your past – and look at the present – to better understand past events, how they are remembered or re-lived, and what effect they may still be having, so that we can understand your present thoughts and what lies behind them.

We all have experiences that shape how we think, feel and behave in the here-and-now. Making links between the present and the past will allow us to understand where certain emotions come from; through this process, we learn new ways to move forward.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, low mood, low self-esteem, bereavement, childhood abuse, shame, anger, low self-esteem, narcissism, porn-addiction, victims of crime and rape, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), body dysmorphia, relational trauma created through family dynamics,  health related issues, Narcissism, autistic traits, autism.

I can also help with  Bereavement counselling.

Finding the right person to share your story, is an important part in your healing journey. Whether you find that healing space with me or elsewhere, I wish you well as you take the next courageous step.

When you are ready, please contact me on this directory or visit my webpage. www.Mycounsellingplace.co.uk

My first session

During our initial consultation session which lasts 60 minutes, you will have an opportunity to talk about what’s brought you to counselling and to explore what support you may need from therapy.

This is an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. If you would like further sessions, we will agree on a weekly time that works for both of us.

I always recommend that clients have a regular weekly session, as this allows us to develop a strong therapeutic relationship. I am also aware that it may not always be possible to have weekly sessions and I am happy to be flexible to meet your needs around your availability.
