About me and my therapy practice

With over 20 years’ experience as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I can help you explore your issues and difficult feelings, within the safety of a confidential and supportive counselling relationship.

I normally work face to face, but am experienced in providing online and telephone counselling (via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp, Signal).  I also provide psychodynamic and integrative Clinical Supervision for trainee and qualified Counsellors.

As an Integrative Therapist, I can draw on and tailor specific techniques using Psychodynamic, CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and Solution Focused approaches.

I qualified as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in 2002, gained a CBT Skills Certificate in 2012 and a post-graduate Supervision Training in 2016.

I have knowledge and experience working with a wide range of people experiencing emotional and psychological issues, in particular working with multiple forms of Abuse, Addiction/s, Anxiety, Depression, Loss and Bereavement, Low Confidence/Self-Esteem and Trauma/PTSD.

I have over 20 years' mental health experience working privately and across NHS and Voluntary Sectors; as a Counsellor/CBT therapist at The Rock Clinic since 2004; as a Student Counsellor at Brighton University and UCL (University College London) since 2013; and with Employee Assistance Schemes since 2018.

Practice description

Within the Counselling relationship, you will receive ongoing support and feedback and begin to gain personal insight and understanding. Working relationally, I am especially interested in how childhood experience unconsciously informs our adult relationships; and how this can impact on our mental and physical wellbeing.

Shorter term Counselling can help you address your current problems and try to find new solutions; whilst longer term Therapy can help you explore past and present concerns to help gain insight and effect more lasting change.

Giving words to your story and paying attention to your mind, body and feelings in therapy can help you to increase self-awareness, learn new coping strategies, begin to see things from a different perspective, alleviate anxiety, improve your mood and heal some of your past trauma, hurts or disappointments.

My aim is to increase access to therapies, working cross culturally with a range of difference; and I’m mindful of how therapy can be adapted to different people and situations in order to provide a safe and effective therapeutic alliance.

My first session

Your first appointment is an opportunity to meet with me, explore your concerns, ask any questions you may have and discuss your hopes or fears of counselling. Together, we can decide which therapeutic option best meets your needs, e.g. Psychodynamic or CBT, the length of the contract and how much you can afford to pay.

The number of individual sessions will usually depend on the severity of your difficulties and/or whether you want longer term counselling or ongoing support. During your initial consultation, we can identify a specific focus for our work together if that seems helpful.

To book an initial consultation, or to talk through your personal issues to begin with, please contact me direct by telephone or email.
