About me and my therapy practice
Searching for the right help is not easy when life feels overwhelming. The thought of sharing very personal feelings, perhaps for the first time, can make us feel vulnerable and exposed. Finding a counsellor you are comfortable with can be your first step towards feeling heard and understood. I am a friendly and approachable person who will provide a calm and respectful counselling environment.
People come to counselling for many reasons: feeling unable to cope; feeling deeply distressed or maybe feeling that something in their life needs to change. These are just a few examples. You may be considering counselling to obtain greater understanding of issues that are currently affecting you or perhaps you want to reflect on long-standing matters from your past. Whatever you choose to bring to counselling is what we will consider together at a pace that suits you. The aim of counselling is to help you to feel more at ease with yourself and your life.
I am a person-centred counsellor and this is a therapy which offers you the opportunity to consider thoughts, feelings and possibly behaviours which may have been causing you some difficulty or distress.
I work in private practice with adults on a one to one basis. Most clients are seen weekly. I am currently offering sessions online with Zoom or via the telephone. I am not now working face to face but hope to be able to offer this service when restrictions are lifted.
My first session
The first session is offered at the reduced rate of £20 as it is different from subsequent sessions. I would like to hear what has brought you to counselling and how you might hope to benefit from therapy. I will briefly describe person-centred counselling and I will explain some of the boundaries of counselling such as confidentiality and privacy. Should we decide to work together I will provide you with further information regarding matters of confidentiality and privacy.
This would be an introduction for us; following which you can consider whether I might be the right person to work with you and I will assess whether I would be the most suitable counsellor to help you.
