About me and my therapy practice

Hello, my name is Liz and thank you for visiting my page!  I offer both online and face-to-face therapy, whichever is most suitable for you.

We all have times and difficulties in our lives, whether from the past or present, which can sometimes seem to feel overwhelming and can affect us in our everyday life. You will have your own unique reasons for seeking counselling which could, for example, be bereavement, depression, anxiety, problems with anger, abuse and within our relationships with others.  I can be the person that you are looking for to listen to you without judgement, analysis or direction. When you first contact me we will arrange a convenient time and day for our initial session, where I will explain how I work and we can talk about your reasons for wishing to receive counselling. We will be able to get to know one another and you will have the opportunity to decide whether you wish to have further sessions. I have found that clients are often happier to have sessions over several weeks and many prefer a much longer time, but this is always the decision for you to make. My aim is to create a safe space for us to explore things together and help you reach a deeper understanding of yourself, assisting you to find a path forward in your life.

Practice description

I work from the Person Centred perspective, based on the theory of Carl Rogers and which respects every individual as unique and of equal value.  I believe in another person's potential and ability to move forward and make changes in their lives in a positive way.  My aim is to enable the right conditions for this to take place by offering a safe and confidential space to talk through issues and problems.  As a Person Centred counsellor I offer empathy, putting myself in your shoes, enabling me to understand your world from your point of view and accepting you without judgement or assumptions and being open and honest with you in the moment and sharing with you what I hear, see and feel.

My first session

When you first contact me we will arrange a convenient time and day for our initial session, which is 50 minutes in length and we can talk about your reasons for wishing to receive counselling.  After our first meeting you will have the opportunity to decide whether you wish to have further sessions.  I like to confirm our initial session by email, giving you directions to the therapy space and I also attach a counselling information sheet for you to read through beforehand which clients have said that they find helpful.  There are also hard copies available to give you when you arrive if you do not have an email address.  I work in a pleasant, light and airy space which is easy to access by car or bus and there is plenty of parking.
