Weekends may be available for one-off sessions should a session on the weekdays during a particular week not be possible.
About me and my therapy practice
I am an integrative therapist, which means I am trained to be able to use a number of modalities and deliver a variety of approaches depending on your individual needs and circumstances. Typically, the type of approaches I would use are humanistic, person-centred, gestalt, Jungian, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural and solution-focused.
More generally, I have over 18 years of experience in the health, social care and caring professions. I am also a qualified social worker, the founder of my own mental health charity and have worked as the director of a mental health charity in East London. Previously, I also qualified as a massage therapist and worked in the financial advisory sector.
My practice is an online (Zoom) and telephone counselling service. My sessions are £40 for 60 minutes. After the initial session, if you are happy for our work to continue, I would arrange a regular weekly time for our sessions. The online sessions would always be my preferred option, but telephone counselling is definitely available should online sessions not be possible for whatever reason.
During my counselling sessions, I will provide you with a safe and highly supportive space to be able to express what you are going through, and in particular those issues that are difficult to share with others in your networks.
I fully understand that even trusting and feeling safe with a counsellor may take time, and I will always ensure that the counselling sessions will go at a pace that you are comfortable with.
Using this as a platform, the counselling sessions would then be a co-created journey. What this means is that my way of working is not just about imparting my professional knowledge and expertise. Instead, it is also about helping you access your own innate wisdom in terms of what would be best for you, as ultimately you are the one who is living your life and going through your experiences. It is facilitating this process that I find leads to genuine empowerment.
While the counselling I offer will help you identify ways of managing and overcoming those issues which are causing you distress and difficulties, I would also be helping you achieve overall psychological well-being.
This means that we would go through the various aspects of well-being, and identify whether you feel things need to change over and above the initial problem or set of issues which brought you to counselling. As part of this, we would explore concepts like meaning, purpose, living authentically, and how you would like to pro-actively approach and engage with the different areas of your life, both now and in the future.
My first session
The first session is offered at a discounted rate of £30. I ask clients to allow up to 90 minutes for the first session. Prior to the first session I would also send you a client contract which covers the general guidelines around counselling e.g. confidentiality etc.
The first session is really an opportunity for you to express in your own words what brings you to counselling and what help and support you are looking for. I will help you through this process as well, through asking questions about the different areas of your life, which could include your current circumstances, past periods and hopes for the future.
For those who have not been to counselling before, the initial session will give you a useful sense of what counselling is like and how it can be helpful.
If there is time in the first session, we can also start some of the work around formulating what courses of action could be useful to you, in dealing with the challenges you are facing.
