Availability
I have various availability with daytime, evening and Saturday morning sessions available. Availability is fluid though so please get in touch to discuss further.
Currently, I am only offering online sessions over Zoom or telephone sessions.
I have worked for many years using an online platform. I am trained to work online and I am a member of ACTO (Association of Counselling and Therapy Online).
About me and my therapy practice
Individual Therapy: I work collaboratively with individuals. I treat everybody as an individual because we are all different and unique. I aim to provide a safe and secure environment where I can support you in developing greater self-awareness and understanding of the conscious and unconscious causes of your problems.
I am integrative which means that I am trained to use different psychological approaches dependent on the specific needs of individual clients. These include: psychodynamic psychotherapy which often looks for causes in the past (such as attachment patterns, for instance), systemic therapy which looks more at patterns in relationships (both past and present) and buddhist psychology which allows us to look at the benefits of mindfulness (both in increasing happiness and presence but also using mindfulness as an effective coping strategy). I also hold an OCST4 Certificate in Online Counselling (webcam and voice only) and I am a member of the Association of Therapists and Counsellors Online (ACTO).
Couples/Relationship Counselling: it is often useful to explore such areas as: communication styles, conflict management, communication and negotiation around difference, parenting styles, personality types and how these interact, issues around sex and money, extended family, cultural differences, gender differences (and the social construction around these) and neurodiversity within the couple dynamic. We may explore what is working well within the relationship - sometimes couples in conflict can lose sight of the positive aspects of the relationship when becoming problem focused over time. Perhaps unresolved trauma, depression or anxiety in one or both partners is creating difficulty in relating. I have worked extensively with couples and affairs.
Practice description
I have been in practice for over 15 years and have worked with most problems that people can experience. My therapeutic approach is down to earth and is often a mixture of looking for the causes of presenting issues and discussing coping strategies both for the short and long terms. I am trained to use many different approaches.
My core trainings are:
PgDip Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Diploma in Buddhist Psychology
CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Systemic Relationship Counselling
Certificate in Clinical Hypnosis
Certificate in Positive Psychology
Certificate in ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).
I am currently training to be a clinical supervisor.
I have a special interest in working with HSPs (highly sensitive people) and I have worked with many over my years in practice.
I have worked with many LGBTQI+ clients and welcome both individuals and couples for the LGBTQI+ community. I am a gay affirmative therapist.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute initial phone call. This gives you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have and also to see if I am the 'right fit' for you. This is an essential component of outcome in therapy.
After this I suggest an initial session which individuals and couples can attend without any obligation to continue. I will take a history as part of this session and it gives clients the opportunity to see how I work.
