About me and my therapy practice
Manch is an imaginative psychotherapist based in London working with people across the UK to manage, or let go, of the challenges life sends our way. This is by applying techniques such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Compassion Focussed Therapy. Research, and more importantly client feedback, show these to be highly effective in dealing with negative emotions. these include anxiety, depression, anger, shame and guilt where the causes can be past (e.g. trauma) or present (e.g. specific events). Often, these reveal themselves as "general" stress, phobias OCD and eating disorders.
The first steps when working together are to listen, fully understand you as a person, your past and present, then assess the emotion you would like to work upon, the trigger(s) for it. We then identify the key problem which, if resolved, would provide you with the most phycological benefit and then set a goal which we work towards. Along the way, current unhealthy beliefs are identified and a healthier set is built which clients move towards. This requires personal change, which is supported and guided through exercise, analogies and constant challenge. Humour is also helpful!
As a married father of two independent adults, I have experienced life's voyage with all its challenges. Insights are applied where helpful to provide practical ways forward for clients. I also offer deep insight into work and its psychological challenges, applying experience from over 30 years in complex roles. Experience of what helped and hindered is applied.
I have Advanced Diplomas in Integrative CBT/REBT (Distinction). Professional recognition includes being a Registered Member of the BACP and Member of the NCS. In addition, a degree in Biochemistry helps explain the science of disturbance and how to heal. Lastly, an MBA helps provide further insight into challenges we can face at work.
My first session
The first step when working together is to complete a short assessment to build the understanding of the client as a person. This is discussed in the first session, along with the basic theory of emotional responsibility and change. Sensitive, empathetic and supportive questioning is then used to understand and assess a client's emotions and triggers for these.
Future sessions have a focus on “quick wins” and results, which involves understanding, straight talking, work between sessions and a solid client relationship.
