About me and my therapy practice

There are times in our lives when we may feel the need for support, navigating rough seas or finding ourselves in uncharted territories. I offer counselling to adults, children and young people, providing a safe and confidential space in which to explore the issues that are important to you. When words may be difficult or hard to find, I am able to offer a range of creative media to be a place of safe harbour or means of expression and exploration, when agreeable to you.

TRAINING & APPROACH

I have a masters degree in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy, which means that I draw from a range of mainstream theoretical models, particularly Transactional Analysis (TA), to help think about and explore relationships and interactions and Gestalt therapy which supports the creative exploration of issues and self awareness. I may also utilise cognitive behavioural strategies within both of these approaches. Integrating the Arts in a therapeutic way, may also harness our innate creativity to support and deepen our relationship to ourself, to others and the to the environment we live in.

As well as supporting therapeutic work with adults, in understanding the impact that childhood issues can exert on our adult lives, a diploma in Child Counselling has provided me with a firm grounding in understanding the difficulties that children may face. Whether this is involves issues relating to early development or family break up, transitioning from primary to secondary school, friendship issues, coping with media pressures, low mood, identity, bullying or loss.

In my therapeutic work with primary children aged 5-11, I offer client led therapeutic play and creative activities, tailoring the work depending on the developmental level, preference and ability of the child. For children aged 11-18, I utilise creative activities alongside talking therapy as well more cognitive behavioural strategies.
