About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Rosa, a relational therapist with over 15 years experience, including over 7 years experience working online, and am accredited with both the BACP and IPTuk. These are strange and unprecedented times we are living through; the Covid-19 virus has affected all our lives, and looks set to continue to for the forseeable future. The Black Lives Matter movement is uniting many across the globe in a fight for equality and justice for all human beings, no matter the colour of their skin. For some people, this is bringing up echoes of loss, which carries with it grief and an acute sensitivity to the fragility of relationships and to life. For others, it is bringing anger and frustration for the constraints and injustices in life. We have all had to make changes and learn to manage uncertainty during this pandemic, and for some this brings to a head deep-rooted fears. Any sense of isolation and disconnection you have been feeling previously, could well be amplified during this time, with less human touch and restricted freedom. I have worked with a huge variety of people from ages 10-70, different ethnicities, gender identities and sexual orientations during my working life. I have worked for HIV and AIDs, sexual health and sexual abuse and rape charities; as well as for agencies working with young people and in a residential children's home.
It can take a great deal of courage to step into therapy, and yet it is the ideal relationship in which to meet ourselves with understanding and acceptance. Within the safety of this confidential relationship you have the opportunity to develop a more coherent narrative of your life and experiment with new ways of both being, and expressing yourself. I will not judge you, but instead meet you with respect, compassion and honesty. I have particular experience of working with young adults, people who have survived trauma and abuse; as well as those struggling with depression, changes in identity, conflictual relationships, and grief. Humanistic Counselling - Life can feel overwhelming, confusing and downright maddening at times. We can feel lost, ashamed, adrift from others, or compelled to continue destructive or toxic relationships. It can be hard to know how to alleviate our distress or know who to turn to for impartial support. Counselling can provide you with the confidential space to take stock of how you came to be where you are, and look at where you'd like to head towards next. Together, we can make sense of how your early caregiver relationships lay down the blueprint for how you now relate to others, yourself, and the world. We can unpack your experiences, explore your patterns, and set goals - if you want to - for any changes you'd like to make. Interpersonal Psychotherapy - This is a specific 12-16 session course of psychotherapy which is designed to help people overcome an episode of depression. It has a clearly delineated beginning, middle and end phase. During the beginning phase we look in detail at the depression symptoms you are suffering from, at most significant events in the course of your life and we map out your current relationships. We begin to form a sense of who can support you through your recovery of the depression, and how you can further help yourself.
My first session
You can contact me by phone, text or email. I offer a free initial phone/online 1/2 hour consultation during which you can let me know what you're looking for, ask any questions you might have, and work out if I would be a good match for you. I work face to face with people from a small therapy centre in Falmouth. I am also continuing to offer online sessions through the 'zoom' platform as well as telephone sessions. I also offer a limited number of outdoor therapy sessions, during which we meet in nature, sitting or walking depending on your preference.
