About me and my therapy practice

Hello, I'm Rosa, a relational therapist with over 15 years experience, including over 7 years experience working online, and am accredited with both the BACP and IPTuk.

The search for a therapist is a hugely personal and individual process. Whether you are looking for support with a particular issue or you are simply feeling a lack of wellbeing in life and relationships, you need to find someone in whom you can trust. The bedrock of my approach is to provide a sense of warmth and safety in which individuals can feel free to express their deepest feelings and most troubling thoughts, without risk of receiving judgment or criticism. I can offer you an honest yet compassionate presence, and will actively help you make sense of your difficulties.

Over the years I have worked for sexual health; abuse recovery; community adult and young peoples' counselling agencies, as well as children's' residential services and an HIV/AIDS charity. I have designed and delivered training on different aspects of mental health within this agency work and held lead therapist, clinical lead and supervisor roles. I recently took the decision to step away from services and focus on my private practice as both therapist and supervisor.

I have particular experience of working with young adults, people who have survived trauma and abuse; as well as those struggling with depression, changes in identity, conflictual relationships, and grief. I welcome people of all sexual orientations. I have specialist training in supporting people who are questioning their gender identity and/or transitioning.

Practice description

It can take a great deal of courage to step into therapy, and yet it is the ideal relationship in which to meet ourselves with understanding and acceptance. Within the safety of this confidential relationship you have the opportunity to develop a more coherent narrative of your life and experiment with new ways of both being, and expressing yourself. I will not judge you, but instead meet you with respect, compassion and honesty. I offer two routes to therapy:

Humanistic Counselling - Life can feel overwhelming, confusing and downright maddening at times. We can feel lost, ashamed, adrift from others, or compelled to continue destructive or toxic relationships. It can be hard to know how to alleviate our distress or know who to turn to for impartial support. Counselling can provide you with the confidential space to take stock of how you came to be where you are, and look at where you'd like to head towards next. Together, we can make sense of how your early caregiver relationships lay down the blueprint for how you now relate to others, yourself, and the world. We can unpack your experiences, explore your patterns, and set goals - if you want to - for any changes you'd like to make.

My first session

You can contact me by phone, text or email. I offer a free initial phone/online 1/2 hour consultation during which you can let me know what you're looking for, ask any questions you might have,  and work out if I would be a good match for you.

I work face to face with people from a small therapy centre in Falmouth. I am continuing to offer face to face sessions during this lockdown period for those who would find it problematic to access sessions online.

About me and my therapy practice

My approach as a supervisor has developed over the years I have worked in senior practitioner and clinical lead roles for services, during which I offered both organisational and clinical supervision. My aim is offer an individualised approach depending upon your stage of professional development, your work setting and on the style of supervision you are seeking. I am mindful to always to offer a balance of support; case consultation; and awareness of the welfare needs of the clients. I am well used to the demands of working within services as well as, more recently, in private practice. As such, I am well versed in safe and effective methods of carrying out assessments, thinking about diagnosis and treatment planning where needed. I can support you in ensuring you work effectively and ethically. I adhere to the BACP code of ethics and accredited both with them and with IPTuk as an interpersonal psychotherapist.

Practice description

I believe there are so many different ways of creatively responding in any counselling situation, there's never one 'best' way to tackle a problem. I won't expect you to have all the 'right' answers, and equally I won't assume to have all the answers either! I consider myself a humanistic, relational therapist, and in that sense I trust in the power of honest, trusting relationships. So it follows that I also offer a collaborative co-created approach to supervision. Together we can make sense of what is happening in your relationships with your clients and figure out the next steps you wish or need to take in your work with them, as well as attend to the impact the work is having on you. We can set goals for our work, and explore goal setting in client work if you'd like that. I will make sure there is space for reflection, integration of theory and decision making. When I offer challenge, it comes with warmth, sensitivity and compassion. If you are seeking supervision for work within an educational or organisational setting, and I am asked to write reports on our work together, again I seek to make this as collaborative process as possible.

I draw from quite a few therapy models, but the ones I turn to most are person-centred values; TA theory; the IPT framework and the CFT model. I am also influenced by the trauma informed work of researchers and practitioners such Gabor Mate, Peter Levine, Bessel Van der Kolk, Deb Dana and Brene Brown to name but a few.

I have a certificate in Interpersonal Psychotherapy Supervision and am currently in training towards a more integrative, humanistic diploma in supervision which will complete in spring 2021.

My first session

I offer face to face sessions from a discreet therapy centre in Falmouth which is taking all the necessary precautions to reduce the risk of Covid and is able to remain open during this second lockdown. In addition, I continue to offer online sessions via the 'zoom' platform and telephone session for those who prefer this way of working.

I am an Accredited member of BACP and abide by their code of professional conduct and ethics and work within Data protection guidelines. I attend fortnightly supervision as well as regular conferences and further training events.

Please feel free to contact me by text, phone or email and we can set up an informal phone conversation to discuss your needs and see if I am a good match for you.
