About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I work as an integrative counsellor, drawing from a variety of different theoretical models in my clinical work.
Alongside my private practice, I have worked for the charities Relate and Centre 33 and am currently a Team Leader at the children’s counselling charity, Blue Smile.
I have extensive experience of working with children, teenagers and young adults with a wide variety of emotional and psychological difficulties. These include anxiety and depression, bereavement and loss, family breakdown, experience of bullying, illness and hospitalisation trauma, phobias, addictions, self-harming and relationship problems.
When children and young people come to counselling sessions, they may find it hard to put into words how they feel. This is why I offer the opportunity to use creative arts materials. Using art materials can help to access and process difficult feelings and experiences in a safe and unthreatening way.
My first session
The first session is a 'getting to know you' one. In the counselling room there will be a variety of creative arts and play resources available for your child to choose, if they so wish. Sometimes they simply like to talk.
At the end of the time, the young person can decide if they would like to continue with further sessions.
