About me and my therapy practice

Sometimes in life people experience emotional difficulties that they feel unable to cope with. Life at times can feel overwhelming and complicated and counselling can help during these times and might involve a few sessions over a period of weeks, or a longer process over many months. Some things in life cannot be changed no matter how much we wish that was true, so it can also provide a space to find acceptance and new coping skills for the things in life that we have to live with. I find most people like to find the balance between talking about the past and achieving change in the here and now.

I work with a wide range of difficuties that people tell me they are experiencing such as anxiety, stress, depression, anger, relationship and family problems, issues with trust and overcoming betrayal etc alongside more specialist counselling for alcohol, drugs, addictive/destructive behaviour, trauma and PTSD. If you have a trauma history you may be suprised, or even relieved to know, that recovering from trauma doesnt necessarliy depend on you re-telling your trauma story, so if that has put you off seeking help in the past please contact me to find out the different ways I work with trauma.

I work in person, online via zoom, outdoors where appropriate and I combine traditional talking therapies with somatic work.

Practice description

I am an BACP accredited integrative therapist, which means that I use techniques and tools from a variety of different counselling approaches and tailor them individually to you. I provide general counselling, addiction counselling and trauma therapy to adolescents and adults.

In recent years I have been training to provide therapy to people who have experienced trauma, combining traditional talking therpay with somatic work. I am training in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy in January 2022 which is recognised as gold standard treatment for trauma and PTSD . I'm particularly interested in attachment theory and how our early attachments shape our attachment system and how we relate in our most intimate relationships.

Please see my website for more detailed information about my specialist counselling services.

My first session

Our first session will be an initial consultation where we discuss the reasons you are seeking counselling, any previous experiences of counselling and what you liked or didn’t like about it. We would also spend some time exploring what you hoped to gain from counselling and what you would like to have achieved by the time counselling completes. You will also be provided with some space to find out about my approach, my qualifications and experience. The initial consultation is as much about you getting a sense of me as a person and potential therapist as it is about me getting a sense of what you are looking for. This first session gives you the opportunity for you to assess if you feel we could work together. With this in mind I offer a free 15 minute call by phone or zoom, with no obligation for you to continue with counselling, unless you wish too.
