About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified adult Person-Centred Therapist and CPCAB qualified integrative child and young person’s therapist. My studies for both qualifications and experience enable me to deliver therapies that benefit adults, young people and children.
You will find a safe and confidential space to tell me, a trained professional, about your issues and concerns. I will support you exploring your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others.
As your counsellor I will not give you my opinions or advice or prescribe medication. I will help you find your own solutions – whether that’s making effective changes in your life or finding ways of coping with your problems.
You’ll get the best results from your therapy if you are open and honest with me and say how you’re really feeling. To support you doing this I will help you feel safe to be able to discuss sensitive issues. That includes being able to give me honest feedback on how you feel about your therapy and how we are working together.
In your first session we will discuss a contract that will outline my responsibilities as a counsellor. We will agree a regular day and time to meet and consider how many sessions you may like and your financial position. In this session I can begin to understand what is going on for you and help you to identify what it is you would like to gain from the process. This will help you decide if you are happy to proceed with counselling.
It is important to understand that counselling can sometimes be challenging and that there are times when you may feel tired after a session and perhaps a little worse overall before you begin to feel better. It is important then to look after yourself, to give yourself time. If you can after a session, I would suggest you take some time to reflect on the session and to do some self-care, perhaps go for a walk, take a bath, listen to some music, whatever it is that feels right for you.
My first session
The initial appointment is where you will have the chance to ask about the therapy I deliver and any other questions you have to see if it is right for you and if we are a good match.
To support you accessing counselling we can meet online, by phone or face to face.
During our first session we can consider your access to counselling and this can include financial considerations.
