About me and my therapy practice
I appreciate that taking the first step to see a counsellor can be a daunting time. The initial session is an assessment session. During this session I will take some personal details about your current situation and we will look at why you are considering counselling and what you hope to achieve from it. It will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions of me and for us to assess what will be helpful.
I qualified with a Graduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of York St John in 2003. During my training I worked with York Alcohol Advice Service. Prior to qualifying as a counsellor I worked for Victim Support York and Selby and as a Manager in a supported housing scheme for people with enduring mental health problems. I have many years experience of working with people on a one to one basis providing emotional and practical support prior to my counselling career.
I am an integrative counsellor and work from a person centred approach with clients to explore the problem the client has presented with. In some cases I will work with the client to formulate strategies and goals for change. I also help the client to explore what might be feeding into their problems looking back over their life experiences. I often work creatively using various methods including drawing, colours, dreams and objects to help unblock difficult feelings.

About me and my therapy practice
I offer supervision to qualified and student counsellors. In supervision I work to help the counsellor develop their self awareness and understanding of the relationship between themselves and their clients, in order to be able to use the relationship in a constructive way. I try to create a safe and trusting environment where my supervisees can be open and honest about their counselling experiences and of course, to ensure that they are working safely and ethically. I offer practical advice as well as emotional support and tailor my approach to the level of experience and qualifications of my supervisees.Clients I work with
