About me and my therapy practice
I work with clients of all ages, cultures and orientation on a range of issues both personal and professional. I have worked for more than 30 years with couples and individuals and young people and use a variety of approaches and settings depending on client's preferred style, personality requirements and the issues clients wish to discuss and or resolve. I am trained and qualified in the use of psychometric questionnaires which can assist in clarifying personal preferences that may impact their relationships either personally with partners or family members and children, socially or professionally. Settings can include the use of creative experiential learning techniques or the traditional 'talking therapies'. I specialize in conflict management and conflict resolution and am also a family mediator and an adviser/counsellor (depending on the issues) for families working together in business. I work both short and long term with clients within a values-based approach. A first appointment is used for both client/s and myself to assess the 'chemistry' fit between us; for me to understand the situation/s the client/s wish to address; agree fees; for me to share if I believe I can be of help and how I would envisage working with them, or propose a referral elsewhere. Clients then have time to consider what we have discussed before making their decision to continue. I am able to meet with clients at various locations apart from my North London practice. Most important to me is to work within a background of mutual trust and respect. I undertake and pay for professional supervision, despite a professional practice of more than 30 years.
I am currently working with my clients online via Zoom, which has made access to clients much more flexible and so I can offer assistance therapeutically or in a mediation capacity anywhere in the country or internationally. I look forward to hearing from you.
My first session
On a first session with a client I like to keep it informal and create a relaxed space for us to get to know each other. I am happy to answer questions as to how I work, what style I use, the values that guide my practice. Likewise I wish to get to know you, what you would like counselling to help you with, and what outcomes you hope to achieve. A first session can take up to one and a half hours after which we can both decide together whether a second appointment would be helpful and desirable. I should be able to let you know if I believe I can be of assistance to you at that point but you may wish to take a little more time to reflect on what we have discussed and come back to me after you have had time to do this.
