About me and my therapy practice

I qualified in 2001 with an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling studying the Person Centred, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt models.  Since then I have studied the Psychodynamic model and undertaken additional training in NLP, Coaching and Internal Family Systems (l2) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). I am also an Ofsted approved Attachment Focussed Therapist.  See information below.

I have gained a wealth of training and experience working therapeutically within many diverse settings whilst developing a successful counselling and supervision private practice.

My career started by working with male ex-offenders in rehab, facilitating intensive 12 Step therapy groups relating to drug and alcohol dependency.

In addition to the list below I have spent many hours working with issues around self development, relational issues, communication skills,  terminal illness, chronic fatigue, adoption, bereavement, women prisoners, Christian and other faith issues.

The psychotherapeutic depth at which I work is in relation to the many hours of personal and professional development I have undertaken including personal therapy.   In this regard I also offer psychotherapy.

EMOTIONAL HEALTH SEMINARS

I have a wealth of knowledge and experience to bring to my work and have run three-hour psychoeducational/experiential seminars for the public on Understanding Emotional, Physical and Spiritual health. The seminars are suitable for young people and adults from the age of 18 upwards who are genuinely interested in learning more.  The cost is £25 per person attending. Minimum number of attendees is 12.

Information regarding EMDR taken from www.getselfhelp.com:

EMDR is an innovative clinical treatment which has successfully helped over a million individuals.

There are now nineteen controlled studies into EMDR making it the most thoroughly researched method used in the treatment of trauma, (Details on www.emdr-europe.org and www.emdr.org) and is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) as an effective treatment for PTSD.

In addition to its use for the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR has been successfully used to treat: anxiety and panic attacks - depression - stress  - phobias - sleep problems - complicated grief - addictions - pain relief, phantom limb pain - self-esteem and performance anxiety

About me and my therapy practice

Whilst working integratively, I also offer creative tools to observe significant aspects more deeply. The use of metaphor and imagery can also contribute greatly. I provide enjoyable,  informative and supportive supervision.  I have gained deep insight and understanding through my own process of therapy and believe this contributes to the quality of supervision that I can offer.

Further training in EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS) has also contributed greatly to my knowledge and understanding. and enables me to use these models that enhance the support I can give.

I now offer IFS informed supervision.

Practice description

I offer a warm, secure and confidential setting in order for you to bring your client work.

I work collaboratively and value each supervisee highly.  I ask for honesty and openness between us in all sessions in order for a trusting relationship to be established.

Depending on the level of intensity of client material that some of supervisees work with, from time to time the restorative aspect of supervision can be vitally important to focus on in order to support them to stay fit to practice.

I encourage all supervisees no matter how experienced, to access personal therapy if they are finding particular aspects of their work with clients personally triggering in order to avoid the possibility of potential harm to their clients or burnout for themselves.

Relating to the IFS informed supervision that I offer, this model developed by Richard Schwartz offers a wonderful way to understand more deeply how the Parts of our clients and ourselves can get triggered so easily. It offers a different perspective to bring to our work and in supporting my supervisees while using this model, they have found that their work with clients has often become much more effective and has been particularly helpful to their clients.

My first session

Initially I ask that prospective supervisees have a non chargeable telephone or Zoom session lasting up to 30 minutes to introduce ourselves and to see if we can establish a good working connection.  It's an opportunity for both of us to ask questions of each other and decide if we are a good match to work together.

For online and telephone supervision sessions lasting for 90 minutes each month, we have found it helpful to engage in two 45 minute sessions per month.  Fees are charged at £1 per minute.

Groups supervision is available at £30 per person per hour.
