About me and my therapy practice
I believe passionately in the benefits of ‘talking therapies’ and provide friendly, professional support to help you or you and your partner through the difficulties/distress you may be experiencing.
I provide a calm, reflective space where you can talk freely, without fear of being judged. I work in a way that is respectful and responsive to individual needs. My aim is always to try to understand the world from your point of view and to help you find your own meanings and ways through the difficulties you are encountering, so that you can best decide what needs to change and how to initiate this change. Working together we can explore both past and present experiences that may be impacting adversely on your life and relationships. With understanding and empathy we can identify unhelpful patterns of thought and behaviour and look to develop more effective ways of coping and communicating.
To help you decide if I am the right person to offer you the support you need, I would suggest that we have a brief initial conversation on the phone or via email, and that if you are still unsure, we then arrange to meet for an initial 30 minute session (reduced cost).
I am an experienced BACP Accredited counsellor working with both individuals and couples on either a short term basis or a longer term, open ended basis, depending on need.
I work from home, in an upstairs room, that is quiet and calming, and provides a safe space in which to pause and reflect on the issues that are troubling you.
My first session
Our first session would provide you with the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy at this particular time, and what you would hope to gain from our sessions. This would allow us to determine whether you wanted to work specifically on current issues or issues from the past, and what sort of approach you would be comfortable with. Sometimes it can take more than one session to unpack this.
