About me and my therapy practice
Hello.....I am a Psychotherapist trained in both CBT (Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy) and Person Centred Counselling. I have been told I have a very 'earthy' approach with little room for any unnecessary 'fluff'. I specialise in Depression and Anxiety in its various forms (i.e. Phobias, OCD, Social Anxiety etc...). I appreciate that many people become a little anxious at the prospect of an intense atmosphere in a counselling room. Thats not how I work though. My first aim is to help you relax. To see that yes, it is a 'safe and confidential environment for you to talk about anything you feel would be helpful'. I don't however feel it needs to be a heavy and intense atmosphere either.
Although not exhaustive the following are examples of common mental health issues that I have been treating for over 14 years:
- Panic Attacks
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Specific Phobias
- Worry Management
- Anger Management
Counselling can be useful for anyone who wants to explore the way they're thinking or feeling further, as well as for anyone experiencing a problem or issue they are keen to resolve.
People may choose to speak to a counsellor because they feel they cannot speak to their other half/friends/family about such personal issues, or they may simply wish to speak to a professional with an objective viewpoint.
Common subjects that can be addressed within counselling include the following:
- Mental health
I have been told I have a very 'earthy' approach. I don't see anything to be gained from too much nodding and repeating what you say. You will find from session one that you will have a new skill set helping you to manage whatever brought you to see me.
You are likely experiencing something that is distressing you, anxiety, low mood, or you're finding yourself trapped and are not sure which is the best direction to take.
I use a mixture of the pragmatism of CBT (Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy) with the compassionate and person centred nature of Humanistic Counselling.
My first session
We can have a coffee and a chat. It will feel informal and relaxed. No pressure at all...tell me as much or as little as you want. The end of which I might offer you some thoughts and maybe some insights....either way the decision will be yours as to whether you want to continue.
If you are at all anxious about the prospect of having Face to Face sessions due to COVID-19, please rest assured, I worked for many year in the NHS as a Psychotherapist using both the Telephone and Video (SKYPE/Zoom etc...) as a medium for sessions. I can of course offer Face to Face appointments at my consultation room in Wells.
