About me and my therapy practice
You might be anxious or depressed or perhaps you lost your job, a loved one or you may be struggling with the everyday stresses of life. Whatever your issues are I am here to help you make sense of things, understand your feelings and thoughts.
I m a psychodynamically trained and have a Masters degree in counselling. I have over 6 years of clinical experience working with clients.
In the past I have worked for a North London Charity as a counsellor and also as staff counsellor at University of Cambridge.
Psychodynamic counselling is a counselling method which involves making discoveries about yourself. It aims to bring the unconscious into the conscious awareness so that you can gain some insight and understanding into what is going on in your life or what is troubling you.
Talking about past experiences may be very painful and difficult at times. During therapy we together seek to understand how current emotional and psychological difficulties can have their origin in thoughts and feelings that are unconscious to you and may be located somewhere in past childhood experiences.
Psychodynamic therapy is considered one of the more long-term therapy types. It is a gradual process which takes time.
It is essential to keep in mind that counselling is not a magic pill or a quick fix: counselling is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the client and counsellor alike. But in the end, making small changes in self-defeating behaviour and in feelings of sadness, fear, anger and pain can bring life-altering results.
I work with clients face to face and online/telephone. I offer open ended therapy or time limited depending on your needs.
With the current situation my preferred way of working is online, however, if you would like face to face therapy that is also possible from my Warren Street office.
My first session
Our first session will be an assessment which will allow me to learn a bit about you. We will talk about why you would like counselling and how you think it could help you. This first session will give you an opportunity to see if you feel that you would like to work with me. It is very important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor, as I believe, that a good therapeutic relationship is essential to your emotional growth.
This session will give you the opportunity to ask questions.
Once you decide to go ahead with counselling, we will arrange a regular time and day to meet for our weekly sessions.
