About me and my therapy practice

I am a BACP senior accredited counsellor with nearly 27 years' professional counselling experience offering one-to-one short-term and long-term counselling to adults of all ages from age 16 upwards and including the elderly.

All my work is founded upon a deeply held belief in the person-centred and relational approach so this is at the heart of my counselling practice and is also a way of life. I am interested, however, in where issues and problems originate from and this is frequently in our childhood messages and experiences. These then are often just as significant as what is going on in the here-and-now.

For me, counselling is about personal empowerment and about helping you take control of your life and manage it better so that your hopes and dreams can confidently re-emerge and have chance of becoming reality.

My approach to psychological and emotional distress is non-pathologising so I will not diagnose you as having such and such a ‘disorder’ which is more of a medical approach than a relational one. I prefer to see you as a fellow human-being currently struggling or troubled as we all are from time to time!

If appropriate, I like to work creatively. Thus, in addition to active and respectful listening, which is always the essence of the work, I may with your permission occasionally offer drawing, writing, chair-work or other playful methods of harnessing the power of metaphor and of your imagination, to access your feelings more quickly and effectively than simply through talk.

As a member of the Directory of Pink Therapists, I welcome Lesbian, Gay and Bi-sexual and Transgender clients and I also welcome issues around spirituality (in its widest sense).

I also positively welcome BME clients and supervisees.

About me and my therapy practice

I have worked as a supervisor for the last 18 years with a great variety of supervisees working in a great variety of different settings and in private practice.

I am a person-centred/humanistic supervisor and my supervision style is person-centred, relational and creative. I like to offer chairwork, sand tray, art work, reflective writing and other creative methods if supervisees are keen too.

Working with supervisees who work with bereavement, loss, domestic abuse, LGBT issues, different cultures, survivors of bullying, sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse are all of particular interest to me.

BME supervisees very welcome; LGBT supervisees very welcome. I am a member of Pink Therapy.
