About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced counsellor, qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person Centred Therapy. (PCT) I am a registered member of the BACP. I work with people aged from 16 years up to adults of any age suffering from many types of mental health problems including anxiety and depression, bereavement and loss, and anger issues. I offer a warm, inviting safe environment in which you can talk about your feelings in complete confidence.
Talking through your difficulties with me will enable you to begin to understand why you have been feeling so low. You will come to comprehend the reasoning behind those negative feelings you are experiencing. Working at your own pace you will begin to recognise those painful thoughts, feelings and emotions which may be holding you back. Together we can work towards helping you make positive changes to your life. My support will enable you to have a greater understanding of your current issues and help you to locate inner-strength. Thus increasing your resilience and self-esteem to be able to face your problems with a greater level of self-confidence. Ultimately empowering you to move forward with your life in a happier, healthier, and more contented manner.
Practice description
The types of therapy that I use are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. (CBT) and Person-Centred Therapy. (PCT) Both are forms of talking therapy. CBT is based on the idea is that your thoughts, feelings, physical reactions and the things you do are all related and that you can become trapped in a cycle of negative thoughts and behaviours. CBT helps you learn to deal with issues in a more positive way. PCT is a therapy centred around you and not your problem. You will lead the conversation into any direction that you wish. I will be there to provide a warm, comfortable, positive environment for you to talk about you issues. I will listen carefully and reflect back what you have said
My areas of expertise includes working with many people who are suffering from a wide variety of mental health conditions including anxiety and depression, bereavement and loss, anger issues, abuse, dependency. People who have suffered a bereavement can be affected in many ways and no two people will experience grief in the same way or for the same length of time. Talking through their loss helps them to understand their own grieving process and understand that they are not alone and that the process of grieving is something we all go through at some times in our lives..
I have sound experience in many other areas including family issues, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), addiction, dependent personality disorder, and chronic illness. Discussing these issues with me will enable you to understand yourself better and increase your self-esteem. Ultimately you will have the strength and commitment to overcome your adversity.
My first session
You can e-mail or call me (Please leave a message and I will ring you back) anytime to a arrange an initial free telephone consultation. I will ask you a little about what is troubling you and what you would like to gain from your counselling sessions. If you are happy to proceed you can book your first session at a time to suit you.
In your first session you can begin by talking about the issues which are troubling you. As you build up your confidence you may have more issues that you want to explore. You can prioritise which issue you need to deal with first. I will listen to you and paraphrase back what you have said so that you know you are being listened to and understood.
