About me and my therapy practice
ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Sonia and I am a fully qualified, BACP registered, person-centred counsellor based in the Manchester City Centre. I've got my Masters qualification in Clinical Counselling from The University of Chester and attended an extensive list of CPD courses to broaden my knowledge and skills to benefit my clients. I've been practising since February 2018 and helped clients from all walks of life, presenting with stress, moderate to severe anxiety and depression and other difficulties that may be at the root of these.
HOW I CAN HELP YOU THROUGH COUNSELLING
If you struggle with depression, anxiety, stress or your confidence and self-esteem are holding you back from living a more fulfilling and happy life, I can help you achieve your goals. I offer a safe, facilitative space where your self-exploration and personal growth are a number one priority. I also work to create a stabilising environment for clients with trauma based life experiences.
Together, we can explore anything you feel is concerning you. I will help you recognise and understand your feelings, emotions, thought processes and identify unhealthy patterns that are stopping you from enjoying life. I will aim to help you increase your self-awareness and work through experiences that make you feel in a certain way right now, process your current feelings and make sense of everything that may feel 'jumbled up' in your mind. We can look at things from a fresh perspective and help you find new, more effective ways of living a more balanced life - emotionally, psychologically, socially and physically.
I understand that sharing your personal experiences with a stranger can feel daunting and scary. I offer a space where your struggles will be heard and your mental health will be made a priority. Our therapy sessions will be your space to talk in confidence and without a fear of being judged.

IN-PERSON AND ONLINE/TELEPHONE THERAPY SESSIONS
I offer 1:2:1, face-to-face or online therapy sessions for adults. My counselling practice is based on St. Ann's Square in the Manchester City Centre and is easily accessible. All Counselling rooms are very spacious, private and decorated neutrally for your ultimate comfort when you visit for your sessions. Large windows are ideal for plenty of airflow - premises are Covid-19 secure (safety guidelines apply).
Online/telephone therapy gives you more flexibility and greater access to therapy, saving time and energy on travel. It also provides an extra layer of anonymity. It is as effective as face-to-face counselling.
DIFFICULTIES I CAN HELP WITH
I’ve worked with clients with a range of mental health difficulties from moderate/severe anxiety and depression, stress, multiple trauma, loss, suicidal ideation, abuse, family difficulties, relationship difficulties, living with medical conditions, low self-esteem, confidence issues, lack of self-awareness, personal development and growth.
I am experienced in working with people from diverse backgrounds, of different age groups and sexuality. I offer both, long-term and short-term (8-12 weeks) therapeutic interventions on weekly basis.
My first session
INITIAL CONSULTATION
Before we have the first therapy session, I will arrange for an initial consultation session at your convenience. This is a great opportunity for us to meet via ZOOM or phone for the very first time and to establish whether we can work together.
The initial consultation is FREE and takes up to 30 minutes. I will go through an assessment form with you to collect any background information needed for counselling purposes. I will run through our service agreement and clarify any points if needed. It is vital that we use this session to get to know each other a little and to take care of the 'business' side of therapy before our first official counselling session.
REGULAR COUNSELLING SESSION
This is your time with me to explore anything that is concerning you or weighing you down. You can share anything you feel needs your immediate attention. I can help you explore your feelings and thoughts around any issues and help you find your own ways to cope and manage better. You will gradually become more self-aware and confident in yourself to make your informed decisions.
