About me and my therapy practice
My names Rebecca - I’m a qualified and experienced BACP Registered Psychtherapist working in Telford & Wrekin. I work with a diverse range of issues with people from all backgrounds on a short, medium or long-term basis depending on need. I offer a professional, non-judgemental and confidential service, for adults and couples. I specialise with working with people who have experienced rape, sexual assault, CSE, PTSD, anxiety, depression, bereavement, OCD, mental health issues & more.
My lens on the world is wide. I enjoyed a very successful career working in a SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre) working with Adults and Children who had experienced rape and sexual assault, CSE and childhood sexual abuse. I worked along side the police and forensic examiners to support victims both emotionally and practically predominately immediately after the traumatic event had taken place. I feel this line of work has benefited me greatly from the both the level of training, experience and personal growth I have experienced over the years. This role was invaluable to me when supporting people who have been raped or sexually assaulted
I have also extensive experience with a wide range of mental health issues after working for many years with children with EBSD, ASD, Severe Autism, Aspergers, Eating Disorders, Schizophrenia and more.
My work is based on Humanistic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which addresses people’s reinforcing beliefs and behaviours. Together we will look at what has brought you into therapy, and explore your thoughts and feelings to help you gain insight to how past events, a problem in the present, or fears for the future may be affecting your daily living. Sometimes people just want to know more about themselves.
Many individuals who come into therapy are in a vulnerable or difficult place and I advocate the importance of you feeling 'safe' and 'comfortable' within the therapeutic setting. This aspect is vital if therapy is to measured and successful.
As our therapeutic relationship grows and strengthens, we jointly begin to understand how you perceive your situation, what you want to change about it and what is holding you back. Therapy can help you make permanent changes in your life and to your emotional growth and well-being. This is because therapy is about offering a supported environment, as well as a new relationship - where you can learn to do things differently, learn to take control of your life, learn to be different, whilst also understanding yourself and others better.
