About me and my therapy practice
I have worked as a therapist for over 23 years in organisational settings, the NHS and private practice. What brings us to seek support is often a desire to change a current situation or to explore a past one that is having an effect on how you are feeling or behaving now.
Making that initial contact can be hard, but it's a first step to gaining some control and having the support to move forwards.
Having someone who is professionally qualified and outside of the situation can often be a great help. As therapists we too have had lots of life's ups and downs and supporting you to explore these and get back on track as quickly as possible can really help.
I aim to work to a short term model (although with trauma this maybe a little longer). When self-funding it’s important to know how long / how many sessions I think we can work with, and this is discussed clearly at initial session with no obligation.
Having trained initially at Manchester University, I am a solution focussed therapist, qualified EMDR Trauma Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and am also Brainspotting trained.
I have worked as a Senior Clinician and senior manager within the NHS (within a Mental Health Trust). I am a qualified Mediator, CBT Life Coach and experienced Counsellor / Psychotherapist.
With any training and background, I firmly feel that the relationship you establish with your therapist is so important, to ensure you feel comfortable and confident.
I have a background as a trauma specialist but we all have small traumas along the way that impact upon us and shape us too.
I offer an initial call to explore what is causing the difficulties and if you feel my ways of working can help you.
As the Clinical Director of a large psychological services provider, I don’t have a large private practice, but working with a small number of clients, from my home office, enables me to have dedicated time some evenings and at weekends.
My first session
I offer an initial no obligation telephone appointment at no cost. This is to explore how I feel that i can help and if you think that my approach and clinical background is suitable for you.
I have experience of working with individuals and couples.
I see clients F2F ( Covid permitting) and by telephone or virtually.
