About me and my therapy practice

My name is Bridget and I warmly welcome you.

I am a warm, approachable, committed and fully qualified Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (Distinction). I believe that the power of the therapeutic relationship is key to the success of therapy and as such, from a strongly relational stance, offer a safe, nourishing and nurturing environment in which to explore any issues you may be currently facing. It may be that life has thrown you some unexpected challenges, it may be that you are asking Who Am I? Alternatively you may want to celebrate your successes and would like to be witnessed and supported in this.

I have extensive experience working with stress, anxiety, depression, abuse, trauma, PTSD, bereavement, relational and anger issues. I also have experience working with pre and perinatal issues including Vanishing Twin Syndrome, fertility and pregnancy issues, miscarriage and postnatal depression.

As a former piano teacher I am also very interested in using creative techniques in the therapy room such as moving, singing, drawing and shouting. This can help with feelings of shame and accesses emotions and experiences that are too difficult to talk about initially. There is no obligation however to use these techniques, I will be guided by you and what I feel will be most helpful for you.

My Humanistic and Integrative training means I use a variety of approaches in my work. This allows me to tailor the counselling to you personally.

I invite you to be 'deeply heard, supported and understood' and to reach for and accept 'love, growth and hope'.

Practice description

Whatever the reason for bringing you to counselling I offer a collaborative and supportive environment in which to explore your current situation.

I provide 1:1 face to face, short and long term counselling and psychotherapy from my private therapy room in Whitchurch, South Bristol (near to the ring road and surrounding areas of Keynsham, Tottedown, Hengrove, Knowle and Brislington).

My first session

I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation with no obligation to book further sessions. This session gives us a chance to get to know each other. I will ask you what has brought you to therapy and also if you have had any previous therapy, how was this experience for you.

If we decide we want to work with each other we will book in regular weekly slots. In our first full session I will complete an assessment which gives me a more detailed idea of what you are looking for from the therapy and a little more about your history.
