About me and my therapy practice

A warm welcome to my Children's Counselling Practice.

I am a qualified Child and Adolescent Counsellor and the Clinical Director of The Children's Wellness Centre (clinics located in Tunbridge Wells and in London).

As the lead Therapist in both clinics I work with a team of counsellors, all of whom are specifically trained to work with children and teenagers and who have undertaken rigorous training and clinical placements in childhood mental health.

I oversee all referrals and work alongside all the counsellors, ensuring high standards of therapeutic care within The Children's Wellness Centre clinics.

Our counsellors are all Integrative trained, meaning that they draw on a number of different theories of work, enabling sessions to differ depending on each child and their unique needs.

All our counsellors are members of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).

Practice description

The Children's Wellness Centre is a Paediatric Therapy Practice, conveniently located in the middle of Tunbridge Wells, Kent and offers a host of different child and adolescent therapies, particularly specialising in supporting the mental health of children and young people.

The team of child counsellors provide Play-based Therapy sessions and Counselling sessions to children and young people between 3- 18 years old.

Sessions are run from the Centre's fully equipped, bright and spacious Therapy rooms which all include a 'talking area' as well as a large variety of toys, games and art equipment, all of which are maintained to a very high standard.

We are also able to provide online counselling to children over the age of 10, if appropriate.

The clinic has a stringent policy that we only have counsellors who are trained to work specifically with children and adolescents, as adult counselling is a very different field of work.

My first session

After I have received your message, I will determine which counsellor is most suited to work with your child, depending on availability and specialisms.

More information about our service and the counsellors can be found on our website.

The counsellor will then contact you to set up an initial one-off session for your child and will speak with you on the phone prior to this session, to learn more about your reasons for seeking support.

The initial session is to determine whether the counsellor feels they can support your child moving forward, and whether your child is comfortable with them and in the therapy room. It is an opportunity for your child to see what counselling is all about and whether they feel it is something they are happy to commit to.

After this, if you, your child and the counsellor agrees that counselling could be of benefit for your child, then sessions are once a week, at the same time and day each week. We have no minimum number of sessions required - your child can come for as many, or as few weeks as you can manage - although it is important to note counselling is often a long term process in order for positive changes to be seen.

About me and my therapy practice

A very warm welcome to my Children's Counselling Practice.

I am a fully qualified Integrative Children's Therapist and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I provide one-to-one Counselling and Play Therapy for children and adolescents between the ages of 3-18 years.

I have been working with children and young people for the past 16 years, in nurseries, schools and counselling centres, as well as privately supporting families and children struggling in their home environment. I have experience working with children with additional educational needs, children on the autistic spectrum and those with physical disabilities. I was recently awarded "Best Children's Mental Health Therapist" by GHP Private healthcare Awards.

I hold a graduate degree in Psychology, Level 3 in Counselling Skills and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Children. I trained with Place2Be, the UK's leading mental health organisation for children and adolescents. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy; thus meaning I have met their standards of proficiency for private work and I practise within their ethical framework. I have professional indemnity insurance in place.

I am also a certified sleep consultant and provide behaviour support and sleep programmes to families.

Practice description

I work in a child-centred way, using play, story telling, creative work and talk, to help children express their thoughts and feelings in a way that is comfortable and natural for them. My Integrative training means that I draw on a number of theories and traditions of therapeutic work; including Psychodynamic theory, Attachment theory, Play therapy and Person-Centred approaches.

I believe that every child is unique and value them as individuals with their own mind, views and way of seeing the world. As an Integrative therapist, I am able to work in a way that is responsive to each child and their own needs, rather than using a single approach for all.

My Practice is based within The Children's Wellness Centre in Chiswick, which also provides an array of other Therapeutic services and children's activities.

The Children's Wellness Centre is bright, spacious and child-friendly. I hope your child will feel at ease coming into the Centre, with the aim for it to be relaxed, informal and non clinical.

The Children's Wellness Centre recently won the 2020 "Health and Well-being Award" in West London, for the provision of Therapeutic services.

My first session

After a telephone consultation with parents / carers, I will book your child into their initial session with me, which will last 50-minutes. For younger children, or those anxious about coming, we can make the first session slightly shorter if need be.

After meeting your child I will send you a follow-up and we can decide together, taking into account the views of your child, whether further sessions may be of benefit.
