About me and my therapy practice

Are you experiencing difficulties and challenges in your life, feeling confused or overwhelmed?

We can all experience difficulties and challenges and right now you may be feeling confused or overwhelmed by what is going on in your life and not be able to see a way through.

In the past you may have been able to resolve your issue on your own or turned to family or friends but perhaps now these supports are not available and you would like to look beyond familiar supports. At times like these it can be supportive to talk to a professional counsellor who will provide a confidential space, listen non-judgementally and have the experience to support you explore your thoughts, behaviours and feelings.

From experience I know it can be a difficult decision to choose a therapist so I will tell you about how I practice and my background so you can see if you would like to take the next step and get in contact.

Who I work with

I work with a diverse group of people who have emotional issues, whether you are in a difficult situation and finding it hard to know what to do, struggling with feelings of anxiety, depression, coping with loss or death, struggling to find your self-confidence or sense of worth, or any number of issues you might face in your life.

I have a particular interest in:

Women suffering from menopausal symptoms

The menopause is part of life for most women however is little talked about. Menopausal symptoms can have an impact on women’s day to day life effecting their mood, identity, sleep, causing brain fog as well as other physiological effects.

Parents coping with the challenges of having young children

Parents can struggle with the challenges of having young children; such as their sense of identity and family relationships.

Counselling can be a place to explore your own experiences of this life transitions.

Practice description

My background

My original career was in Sales and Marketing in a large corporation. In the early 2000’s I retrained as a Montessori nursery school teacher, which has a philosophy of non-directivity and enabling children to develop at their own pace in a creative and supportive environment. As my interest in counselling grew and I began my counselling training, I worked for Homestart, a charity which supports parents caring for their young children.

How I work

As a qualified Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counsellor I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches to provide a warm and supportive environment.  My practice is underpinned by the beliefs that we are all unique, strive to belong, make meaning of our lives and have the capacity to change.

Together, and at your pace,  you can develop your awareness and understanding of yourself and your relationships. Rather than give advice I see my role as supporting you to see things more clearly, perhaps from a different perspective. This can help you to find your own answers, strengthen your ability to cope, change patterns of behaviour and develop self-awareness.

I work relationally so, at times, we focus on what happens between us in our therapeutic relationship, in order to understand your relational dynamics.

I work with a range of people from different walks of life and am committed to the principles and values set out in the BACP Ethical Framework.   I am committed to ongoing professional development and am in my final year of studying for a MSc in Humanistic Psychotherapy at the Metanoia Institute.
