About me and my therapy practice

We can all experience difficulties and challenges and right now you may be feeling anxious, uncertain, and may be overwhelmed by the thoughts and feelings you are experiencing in relation to current or past events.

At times like these it can be supportive to talk to a professional and experienced psychotherapist who will provide a confidential space. A therapist who will listen non-judgementally and have the skills to support you explore your thoughts, behaviours and feelings in order to help you understand yourself better, support you to develop resources and see things from a different perspective.

From experience I know it can be a difficult decision to choose a therapist so I will tell you a little about how I practice and my background so you can decide if you would like to get in contact to arrange an initial, obligation free, phone call.

Who I work with

I work with individual adults, from diverse backgrounds, who present with a range of emotional issues. These presentations include such things as anxiety, work related stress, depression, grief, loss, difficulties in relationships, relationship breakdowns, struggling to find self-confidence or sense of worth, coming to terms with a life transition (eg. parenting, separation/divorce, menopause, retirement) or feeling stuck and not sure what to do and wondering why you feel this way.

Life Transitions

Eg: Women experiencing menopausal symptoms

Although the menopause is now more in the main stream conversation it is still little talked about. Menopausal symptoms can have an impact on day to day life effecting mood, identity, sleep, causing brain fog as well as other physiological effects.

Eg:   Parents coping with the challenges of having children

Parents can struggle with the challenges of having children; eg their sense of identity and family relationships.

Therapy can be a place to explore experiences of life transitions to increase self-awareness and to develop self-acceptance and/or make changes.

Practice description

My background

My background was in the corporate world although after becoming a parent I retrained as a Montessori teacher. My personal values of respect, curiosity, integrity, kindness, trustworthiness, and belief in the possibility of growth and the importance of enhancing an individuals’ wellbeing are reflected in my humanistic philosophy.

How I work

As a Humanistic Psychotherapist my practice is underpinned by the beliefs we are all unique, strive to make meaning of our lives, seek relationships, strive to belong, and have the capacity to change. I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches depending what is bringing you to therapy and what you would like to focus on and I provide a supportive environment within which we can be curious and explore.

Rather than give advice I see my role as supporting and challenging you to see things more clearly, perhaps from a different perspective and together, but at your pace, support you to develop your self-awareness.  This can help you find your own answers, strengthen your ability to cope, develop your resources, change patterns of behaviour, build your resources and develop your self-awareness.

I work relationally which means that at times we will use the therapeutic relationship to develop your understanding of your relational dynamics. We might focus on your bodily senses to develop understanding of your feelings and the connection between your mind and body which will support you to develop your self-awareness and from this awareness make choices.

I am committed to the principles and values set out in the UKCP ethical and professional code and the BACP Ethical Framework, and to ongoing professional development

I am UKCP Registered (Reg no 2011166708)

Practice description

My background

I have worked in a range of roles.  Initially for one of the UK's first loyalty programmes.  After becoming a parent, in the early 2000’s I trained as a Montessori nursery school teacher, which has a philosophy of non-directivity and enabling children to develop at their own pace in a creative and supportive environment. This philosophy is something I hold in my practice as a psychotherapist, the importance of providing a supportive and creative environment and to pace the work inline with a client's presentation and wishes.

This can help you to find your own answers, strengthen your ability to cope, change patterns of behaviour, build your resources and develop your self-awareness.

I work relationally which means that at times we will explore what happens between us, in the moment, in our therapeutic relationship in order to understand your relational dynamics.  We might focus on your bodily senses to develop understanding of your feelings and the connection between your mind and body which will support you to develop your self-awareness.

I am committed to the principles and values set out in the UKCP ethical and professional code and the BACP Ethical Framework.   I am committed to ongoing professional development
