About me and my therapy practice

Many of us face serious challenges and setbacks in our lives. My aim is to enable all my clients to find or restore the ease of being, energy and enjoyment of life to which they aspire.

According to client preference, I offer meetings online, by phone, or face-to-face. I work from home in a bright private studio, 10 minutes' walk from both Hammersmith & Shepherds Bush stations. Bus services (295, 283, 220 & 72) stop at Brook Green, 3 minutes from the house. A bicycle docking station is close by at Little Brook Green. Metered street parking is also available between 8:30 & 18:30.

I was inspired to train and work as a counsellor/psychotherapist after my own experience of receiving counselling helped me at a key time in my life. Following an initial placement for several years at a busy local GP's practice in the late 1990s, I have worked privately for more than 20 years to help people from all walks of life deal with challenging emotional & behavioural issues, often stress-related.

I have a special interest in working with victims of adverse childhood experiences, trauma and PTSD. I have experience in helping business and professional people in demanding jobs who are facing life or career crises and transitions. I frequently work with clients who suffer from anxiety-related issues, depression & low self-acceptance. I draw on 20 years of experience in mediating disputes to help people facing conflict & relationship problems to move forward positively.

“But for your belief in me I would not have come to the realisation that life is indeed precious. Thank you for challenging me and for showing me how to think about issues realistically.” (Client M)

I wish I could help other people with anxiety issues to have the same opportunity I had with you." (Client N)

Practice description

I recognise there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ in therapy, and I prioritise  understanding each individual’s particular background, needs and objectives. I follow the latest international research & knowledge so I can provide well-informed, reliable & practicable guidance to clients, where appropriate.

My approach is informal, flexible & collaborative. A relationship based on trust, commitment and mutual respect is key to effective counselling, so my priority in our first meeting is always to establish if we can work well together. I work without judgement on whatever is getting in my client’s way and assess how this can best be addressed.

Subject to COVID precautions, meetings with me are face-to-face, online through Zoom or Skype, or a mixture of face-to-face and online sessions according to client preference. I also provide telephone counselling.

My first session

Usually my sessions last for 50 minutes but I always allow at least an hour for this one. The key to effective therapy is a relationship of trust, respect and mutual understanding so the first session is an invaluable opportunity for us both to assess whether we will be comfortable working together.

I want you to feel at ease in discussing your situation with me in a totally informal and non judgmental setting.

My priority will be to explore with you the specific problems or challenges you face and how these affect your life now, as well as what you hope to achieve from therapy. We will cover any relevant background, especially relating to how the issues you currently face might have developed. We will also discuss the scope and limits of therapy, important practical aspects of the therapeutic relationship - such as confidentiality and logistics - and how you can derive maximum value from our meetings if you choose to work with me.

We will then have the opportunity to discuss what approach is likely to resonate most with you and be most practicable and effective in meeting your goals.

Ultimately I want you to leave this first meeting with a clear idea of whether I am the right person to support you and if so, how we might work together most productively.
