About me and my therapy practice

ONLINE SESSIONS OFFERED DURING COVID 19 PERIOD

I work with all aspects of anxiety and depression, in young adults (18+) as well as the more mature.

My aim is to think with you about the current feelings you are struggling with (including what may have been stirred up by the current pandemic situation) and to work out with you what could be underlying these feelings. This means thinking with you about your current relationships, but also taking into account important relationships in your past, and how these may (unconsciously) be influencing your present feelings and behaviour.

I have worked for several  years as a Women's Health Counsellor in an NHS Hospital (all issues to do with pregnancy and new parenthood, including loss). I have also worked for 8 years as a University student counsellor (including performance arts).

Issues that arise in my work are many and complex, and include gender identity, eating disorders, body dysphoria, perfectionism and procrastination, bereavement, suicidal ideation and self-harm. Through my experience of listening to clients with a diverse range of psychological and emotional difficulties, I believe that talking really does help.

I also work with those training as counsellors. This could be ongoing once-weekly psychotherapy or simply a few sessions working on the theoretical/academic/emotional aspects of the training. If you would like to discuss an appointment, or ask any further questions, you are very welcome to phone or email me. I will call you back as soon as I can.

Practice description

My private practice is based in Muswell HilI in Haringey N10. It is a peaceful, warm and confidential setting, where you are free to speak in confidence without fear of being judged or criticised. Talking to a trained professional can help you to clarify your feelings, explore them in greater depth, and begin to find new ways to cope. (NB Sessions will be online, on Skype or by phone, until face to face work can safely be resumed).

My first session

Your first, initial consultation session will be a chance for us both to meet, to think further about what is on your mind, and to think about what might be the most helpful way forward for you. I will ask more direct questions than in ongoing sessions. Having met, I will then suggest that we both give ourselves some time to think about whether we would like to work together. If so, we can then arrange a contract of ongoing sessions, whether short term, or longer term/open-ended.
