About me and my therapy practice

You probably want to know how I can help you...

I offer all of my clients a safe, confidential therapeutic space focused on the qualities of respect, non-judgement and offering compassion and empathy.

I'll work with you to better understand what's not working for you, and support you to identify what changes can be made, what you need at this time, and hold space for you to voice how you feel in this process.

I'm down to earth, and open to using some humour in our work. I find that if we connect, person to person, then the therapeutic part can grow from there. Some people find therapy transformational, for others it's about coming to terms with the hand they've been dealt... what ever it is for you, I'm here to listen, support and help you figure out a way through.

Practice description

I specialise in bereavement and loss having worked in this field since 2016, and have further training and expertise in supporting parents who have experienced the loss of their baby or child. I am a proud advocate of the Bereavement Charter for Scotland ensuring people have access to appropriate support when they need it.

I have also worked for a number of years within the field of employee assistance work where employers fund sessions for their employees. This work is often short term, and I have additional training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy, which is helpful for people who have a clear goal in mind for their counselling sessions.

I have an established mindfulness practice and am currently studying how mindfulness can support people in grief. For clients with an interest in mindfulness, I can weave this into our work.

Areas I can help with include:

  • anxiety
  • bereavement
  • depression
  • grief
  • first counselling session

My first session

Our first session is a space for us to get to know each other and understand what has brought you to therapy, and what you need from our space.

If we are working on a specific topic such as low mood or anxiety, I may offer to use some tools to help us measure progress if you feel this would be of benefit to our work together.

At the end of the first session, you can either book a next session if you feel ready to do so, or you are free to take some time and digest how the appointment has gone for you - there's no pressure from me.

About me and my therapy practice

Having qualified in 2010, my practice has grown and changed over the years. My core modality is person centred, but soon after qualifying I added training in Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) into the mix, allowing me to work in a flexible way with clients and supervisees.

I have extensive knowledge and training on bereavement, grief and perinatal loss, as well as a number of years experience in the EAP sector.

Since the pandemic, I have worked exclusively online and via telephone and have enjoyed the freedom this has brought both to my own practice and to my clients and supervisees.

Practice description

Supervision has always been of great benefit to my own practice and wellbeing, and something I value and I hope to create a space for supervisees where they feel the same.

I encourage supervisee's to bring all of themselves into the supervision space - the good, the bad and the bits in between. I see the first function of supervision as being about the welfare of the client and ensuring they are getting the best possible support available to them. Our second priority is your wellbeing and development, ensuring your work is not only ethical, but also fulfilling for you.

My first session

For supervisee's I encourage an introductory call/zoom in order to meet each other and see if we feel like the right fit.

I provide this free of charge, and at the end of this you are welcome to take some time in considering if I feel like the right supervisor for your needs at this time.
