About me and my therapy practice
You may not have considered therapy before but during these unusual times, looking after your mental health is hugely important. Together we can look at coping with isolation, finding a way through recent challenges as well as your general well being.
Deciding to embark on therapy requires courage; it's the first step towards resolving problems you may be experiencing and can lead to restoring your emotional sense of well-being. My practice is open to anyone who needs to give space, time and attention to anything that may be troubling them. I work compassionately in a relaxed but focused manner which allows us to explore what is challenging and to how to cope with, understand further or make changes in life.
Finding the right therapist can be daunting and on this I advise to go with your gut instinct or simply a 'sense' of imagining you can talk to that person.
As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I work following the BACP ethical guidelines which ensure confidentiality and I am committed to the development of every client’s well-being. I do not apply a "one size fits all" approach as I create a tailored programme of therapy sessions to suit each individual’s specific needs.
In addition to my therapeutic training, I am a trained yoga teacher. I have a deep interest in mindfulness and meditation and, by exploring these disciplines, I have been able to develop my understanding of how the mind and body affect each other on many levels.
My first session
'Having struggled with depression and anxiety for years, I eventually hit rock bottom after a traumatic life experience and sought help from Emily. At this stage I thought no one would be able to help me. Since starting therapy with Emily, I have more of an understanding into my mental health and am building coping strategies which I can incorporate into every day life. She provides a warm and welcoming space in which to explore your mind and it's complexity and I have gained so much from our sessions, and know I will continue to do so in the future'. Amy, Nov 2018
'I approached therapy from something of a skeptical perspective but my first session with Emily completely changed my mind. Emily tailors the sessions using a variety of methods, but at no point did I feel analysed, judged or anything of the sort. I found myself easily able to speak the things on my mind while she listened, prompted and offered helpful insights. Over the course of several months together she’s helped me get to the bottom of a number of issues that have been troubling me and my outlook has improved considerably. I’m now more able to identify unhelpful thoughts and patterns of behaviour and address them constructively. As a result I’m finally sleeping better, I’m more focussed at work, and I’m building on my confidence day by day.' James N, Dec 2019
"Therapy with Emily is not like being spoon-fed a self-help book. Rather than feeling like I am just talking about my problems, the sessions have provided me with a set of tools and a deep understanding of my own capabilities to weave into my daily life and way of thinking. She has helped me regain stable ground under my feet, and from the start she has encouraged me to set my own goals while providing invaluable assistance along the way. Would highly recommend! Thank you Emily." Hanne April 2020
