About me and my therapy practice

I am an integrative psychotherapist and counsellor, which means I offer a range of modern therapeutic approaches, depending on your particular needs. I am experienced in working with people seeking therapy because they are in pain for a wide range of reasons. Perhaps you struggle with an overwhelming feeling, are at a confusing crossroads in your life, have a habit that you can't seem to change, or live with an ongoing sense that life is out of kilter. Or perhaps you have been bereaved or traumatised, or are in the midst of a relationship difficulty.

My qualification is a five-year Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from the Minster Centre in London (one of the most respected therapy training centres in the UK). I also hold an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling, and a BSc (hons) in psychology.

My training includes elements of humanistic therapy (a focus on experience in the here-and-now), psychodynamics (how the past unconsciously influences our present), attachment theory (how early relationships influence our current ways of relating), body psychotherapy (the physical basis of emotion), cognitive-behavioural therapy (changing thoughts and actions), mindfulness, and the neuroscience that underpins all of these.

I believe that our patterns of feeling and thinking are shaped by the society that we find ourselves in, as well as by our early relationships and inborn temperaments, and I try to keep the power relationships that are deeply embedded in our society in mind as I practise psychotherapy. Whatever your gender, culture, heritage, race, body, disability, sexual orientation or age, whatever work you do and whatever your beliefs, you are welcome.

As well as running my own practice, I have been a therapist at Mind.

My pronouns are she/her.

Practice description

I see psychotherapy as a warm, welcoming place where you will be able to say whatever you want to, in confidence and without judgement. I will be alongside you, supporting you as we explore your experience, make connections between different parts of your life and look at what changes you want to make. We will aim to understand your patterns of feeling and thinking, enabling us to see what is getting in the way for you.

Much of the time, therapy sessions will be like a conversation between us, Sometimes we might pause to focus on how we are feeling in the moment, or to think about how to structure a different approach to whatever we are looking at. Sometimes we might use photos, music or objects to help express something, or we might think about dreams or physical sensations.

We will include the past in our exploration of the present, as sometimes ways of thinking, feeling or behaving that were helpful to us in the past have become current difficulties.

In a session, I will be guided by what feels most emotionally important to you that week, and I will always be guided by the nuances of the emerging relationship between us.

My first session

Whether or not you’ve had therapy before, a first session with a new therapist can feel like a big step. I offer a first session as a consultation: you will be able to tell me about your hopes for therapy, get a feeling for what working with me will be like, and ask me any questions you may have. If we continue, we might want to have just a few sessions, or work on an open-ended basis, allowing us to go deeper.
