About me and my therapy practice
We sometimes reach a point in our lives in which our usual ways of coping are failing to help. I aim to support you in understanding your troubles and finding more effective ways of dealing with your concerns. I am a trained counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor and my career in the helping professions has spanned over 40 years. I worked as a social worker and mental health worker before specialising as a counsellor and psychotherapist. I have worked in voluntary organisations, including The Samaritans and Rape Crisis, and in private practice, as well as spending nearly 25 years working as a counsellor for the NHS.
My counselling/therapy approach is Integrative. This means that I have experience and training in a variety of therapeutic approaches, including person-centred, existential and psychodynamic, and will use the method that I consider will be most helpful to you. In addition to the listed areas, I have a special interest in cross-generational issues
Our first meeting is an opportunity for me to find out what you need, and for you to get a feel of whether you would like to work with me. If we agree to work together, we would then continue with either a set number of appointments, or with an arrangement to carry on meeting until you feel ready to finish. I usually find that it is most effective to meet weekly, but sometimes less frequent meetings are appropriate. I have both daytime and evening appointments available on Mondays.
My base is in Bolehill, which is an attractive village near Wirksworth and Matlock. It is within reach of Derby, Chesterfield, Buxton, Nottingham and Sheffield. The Matlock – Bakewell bus stops a few minutes’ walk away.
