About me and my therapy practice
I believe the most important qualities a counsellor can possess are genuineness & empathy. It is my purpose to create an atmosphere in which the client feels fully accepted exactly where they are. My training was integrative in nature including studies on crisis, career, group, child and family counselling.
My integrative counseling approach is guided by person centered theory, narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy with the main goal being to provide a safe and nonjudgmental environment. Within this environment, I work with clients by exploring their past experiences to see what effect these experiences have on the present. I fully believe that with the proper support each client can be the expert in their own recovery.
During the past eight years, I have been a foster carer, a court appointed child advocate, a certified sexual assault victim advocate, a master resiliency trainer, and a qualified counsellor. Some of the issues I have helped clients with include depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, career choice, bereavement, & interpersonal relationships. These experiences have provided a great perspective on how resilient individuals can be when provided with the right support.
I have 3 years of experience in counselling and have worked with groups, couples, adults, and children during that time. I am also a registered Mental Health Counseling Intern in the state of Florida and plan on achieving my BACP accreditation early next year.
