About me and my therapy practice
Hello I'm Kate Harding a fully qualified experienced, integrative counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I am passionate about counselling and its place in the world. Having both experienced and witnessed the positive benefits that having a safe, confidential space, in which to talk and explore our feelings and challenges can bring.
I believe in the restorative power of the right therapeutic relationship. I aim to provide the right conditions for you to explore your emotional landscape, come to terms with any negative feelings and to change and develop in your own way.
Counselling is a form of talking therapy. Integrative counselling looks at the person as a whole, taking into account your mental, physical and emotional needs. This means that I utilise techniques and tools from different counselling modalities to tailor an individual approach for you.
Fundamental to the integrative way in which I work is the Person-Centred Approach. The Person-Centred Approach is based on the view that everyone has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change, given the right conditions.
Rather than being seen as the expert and directing the therapy, Person-Centred counselling focuses on the counsellor being honest, non-judgemental and fully accepting. This provides the right conditions for you to develop a deeper sense of awareness, identify problems and move towards personal growth.
This approach fits with my own personal belief system and I aim to offer these conditions, within a confidential space as best I can during our work together.
My first session
I offer confidential, online counselling (via the video conferencing application Zoom) from my private practice room in East Sussex.
Zoom is a way for you to see your counsellor face to face from your computer whilst engaging in therapy. Being able to see your counsellor gives you more of the benefits you get from face to face counselling but with the convenience of online therapy.
Sessions are scheduled for a time agreed between us and last fifty minutes. They usually run weekly, either for an agreed short-term period or longer-term, open-ended. We will agree on the length of your therapy together during our first session.
I believe that a key part of Person-Centred counselling is the relationship. To ensure that you feel like I am the right fit for you, and I feel that my skills match your needs I offer a free fifteen minute zoom session prior to our first session. This is an opportunity for us to meet and for you to share a brief outline of what has brought you to counselling.
If following this initial discussion you decide you would like to proceed with counselling, we will schedule our first session together to discuss elements such as:
- the issues that have brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve from it
- how we will work together and what to expect
- the length of your therapy and the review process
There is no obligation to continue after our first session. The cost of each session is £50 and 24hrs notice is required for cancellation without being charged.
