About me and my therapy practice
Founded in a sound ethical, relational and theoretical basis for practice, I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Supervision. Appointments are avaialble for clinical supervision for students and counsellors, consultative supervision for other supervisors, and professional supervision for others working in education or the caring professions.
Together we will work to find answers to workplace dilemmas, improve reflective practice, develop skills and critical thinking, support self-care, resilience, and guarding against becoming overwhelmed
We will schedule our appointments by telephone or using the Zoom videoconferencing platform. I intend to be in the Zoom online meeting 10 minutes before our meeting is scheduled to start and I will send you an email which invites you to the scheduled meeting, the invite will include a link to click on to gain access to the meeting.
Please make sure you’re in a quiet and private space where you won’t be interrupted or overheard, and you have whatever you need with you, I will do the same. You may want to consider using a headset if you have one to improve the sound and your privacy. Try to give yourself enough bandwidth for videoconferencing by closing down other programmes which connect to the internet. You may want to ask other householders to not ‘stream’ videos or play online during your call.
Technical problems can occur. If we lose contact, please try to re-join the meeting using the original link. I will call you by telephone if we cannot re-establish contact. If we can’t hear each other on Zoom we may continue the session using the chat function, or by telephone. Time lost due to technical issues can usually be made up at the end of the session if you want.
I offer you an opportunity to continually develop your practice and have a space to reflect on your client work, your development as a therapist and your own well-being; evaluate practice and consider how your own values, beliefs, attitudes and behaviours impact on the work; stimulate critical thinking about the relationship between theory and practice, and facilitate your development and integrate training and CPD attended.
Supervision will support you in paying careful and particular attention to your own self-care; to facilitate a growing resilience; pay attention to the wellbeing of the clients, to you, and to aim to ensure that the practice undertaken has a sound ethical, relational, and theoretical basis.
In order to achieve this careful attention will be paid to the supervisory relationship. This means that you are encouraged to name what you need in the supervision as well as give direct feedback if something is or is not useful within the sessions. I aim to be consistently constructive in my approach and seek to be useful to you. The agenda for each session will be clearly negotiated and agreed upon. If something appears unethical then then you are encouraged to express your opinion directly.
On a practical level, at some time most students need a reference or a report written, or a recording commented upon. The content of student reports, or help with Accreditation, will be discussed within supervision sessions. I will also complete forms and brief reports/references within supervision sessions. Longer and more in depth reports will incur a fee, which will be negotiated when the need arises.
If an emergency or something of concern comes up, you can contact me by email, emails are not routinely accessed after 5 pm or during weekends and holidays. I will reply as soon as possible subject to these constraints. Fees are payable for non-attended sessions if less than 24 hours’ notice is given.
My first session
I offer a free intial meeting by video link to discuss your wants and needs and to see if we are a good match. I believe that the supervisor/supervisee relationship is key to successful practice, and finding the right combination may involve meeting with several people.
This is initial meeting is unlikely to be as long as a usual session, and will also give us the opportunity to discuss the potential contract between us.
In the event that we agree to go ahead I will send you a contract for signature after our session,
